UIN Jakarta Strengthens Qur’anic Tradition Through Grand Tahfiz Graduation 2025
Diorama Hall, UIN Online News — HIQMA UIN Jakarta organized the Grand Tahfiz Graduation Program with an opening ceremony at the Diorama Hall on the ground floor of Harun Nasution Auditorium on Friday (September 12, 2025).
In his address, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Ahmad Tholabi Kharlie, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., M.A., underscored the honor bestowed upon Qur’an memorizers. He highlighted the example of Prof. Agil Munawar, who from a young age served as both a Minister of Religious Affairs and a key figure in fostering Qur’anic traditions.
“Qur'an memorizers are honored not only by humans but more importantly by Allah. They may not always be popular on earth, but they are recognized by the angels. He (Agil Munawar) was a Qur'an reciter and memorizer at a very young age. Then, he was entrusted to serve as the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs. That is a sign of Allah’s honor upon them who dedicate their lives for His greatest revelation,” he said.
He further encouraged that the event should be publicized widely, showing that UIN Jakarta is a university that produces great thinkers and upholds a strong Qur’anic tradition.
“These 230 participants are ambassadors of the Qur’an. This event must not stop here; it should resonate more broadly so people know that UIN Jakarta is also an authentic Islamic campus,” he added.
Then, Dr. Hj. Sri Ilham Lubis, Lc., M.Pd.I., Head of Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation Administration, emphasized that the Grand Tahfiz Graduation provides a platform for students who have memorized the Qur’an. Therefore, UIN Jakarta will provide strong support, including awards, scholarships, and the Student Achievement Award (SAA) for these students.
Meanwhile, HIQMA Chairperson Wildan Miftahudin shared that the program was born out of concern over students losing their memorization after graduating from Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) and entering university.
"We created this program to address the decline in Qur'an memorization among pesantren graduates upon entering college. We want to ensure that the memorization must be sustained,” he explained.
He concluded by reaffirming that UIN Jakarta’s identity is inseparable from Islam and expressed hope that the Grand Tahfiz Graduation would continue as an annual tradition at the university.
“UIN students must be agents in preserving the Islamic identity. Wherever they go, people should trust that they are able to read the Qur’an,” he affirmed.
