Ramadan on Campus: The Last Ten Nights
Rectorate Building, UIN Online News - Ramadan is a month replete with bounties and an overflow of kindness from Allah. Among its distinguished nights, one stands out as particularly extraordinary—the Night of Decree (Lailatul Qadar), whose significance surpasses that of a thousand months.
The Night of Decree, a night replete with benefits, presents Muslims with a chance to amplify their acts of prayer and accrue enhanced rewards. During the last ten nights, Muslims are urged to engage fervently in their worship, since the actions undertaken on the night of Lailatul Qadar are esteemed more highly.
Surah Al-Qadr underscores the significance of these last ten nights, whereby Allah stated, "Indeed, We sent it (the Qur'an) down on the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months," (Al-Qadr: 1-3).
In response, Dr. Abdul Moqsith, M.Ag., a lecturer from the Quranic Interpretation Study Program at UIN Jakarta, elucidated that the sanctity of Ramadan is amplified by the fact that the Qur'an was initially kept in the preserved tablet (Lauh Mahfuzh), which was then revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the earthly realm on the Night of Decree.
The revelation of the Qur'an provided profound insight to Muslims, beyond mere historical significance. He stated that the Qur'an transcends its status as a sacred text, serving as a comprehensive guide that offers resolutions to several challenges encountered by mankind.
"The Qur'an functions as a guide and remedy for the challenges encountered by all Muslims. Consequently, anyone who reads the Qur'an will comprehend the wisdom, benefits, and advantages it encompasses," he said.
Furthermore, the Qur'an serves as a guide in both spiritual and social dimensions, as depicted in several passages that refer to science, culture, and natural laws. In addition to religious comprehension, one can also gain insights about the cosmos mentioned in the Quran.
Moreover, he elucidated that the magnificence of the Qur'an is inextricably linked to the benefits of the Night of Decree, which exemplifies His generosity towards the adherents of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
"It is said that the lifetime of Muslims mostly spans from 60 to 70 years. Despite their shorter lifespan relative to earlier followers, His grace grants the followers of Muhammad (PBUH) an extra chance to attain multiplied rewards during this sacred night," he added.
By the end of Ramadan, many scholars believe that the revelation of the Qur'an urged Muslims to amplify their acts of devotion. Worship encompasses both direct devotion to Him, shown by prayer and Qur'anic recitation, and communal acts of worship, such as charity and assisting others.
In conclusion, the Holy Month of Ramadan and the Night of Decree serve not only to amass rewards but also as an opportune moment for introspection, personal development, and enhancing empathy toward others.
