Yusran Razak: Hajj Pilgrimage Have a Positive Impact on Individuals and Communities

It was said by Vice Rector for Student Affairs Yusron Razak during the sermon on Eid al-Adha prayer 1439 H on the field of UIN Jakarta campus on Wednesday (08/22/2018). The Eid al-Adha prayer held by the Jakarta Fathullah UIN Mosque was attended by thousands of Muslims.
According to Yusron, the Hajj is a very good spiritual supplement. The hujjaj will fill the soul with fear and taqwa to Allah. Their conscience will be filled with love for God and the Apostle. After the pilgrimage, it is expected that one can hold back and distance themselves from various forms of immorality, which will keep away from divine awareness. If that is done, then a new awareness will be born of its existence and personality.
The Hajj also trains Muslims to practice the principles of humanity, brotherhood and equality universally. In the Hajj, all people are asked to take off their clothes, jewelry that often marks regional differences, social classes and so on. Instead, everyone wears simple clothes that are more like a shroud. When giving tawrah and having a message on the nahah, there is no visible individual wealth and social status.
In addition, Hajj also teaches the values of peace by instilling the spirit of peace into him. Most of the practices of Hajj are carried out in two months, including the haram month where Allah makes it a period of ceasefire, stopping war and blooshed. When carrying out ihram, one enters into an atmosphere of ultimate peace with anyone and the surrounding environment. In fact, the Caliph Umar bin Khatab once said, "If I encounter my father's murderer there, I will not touch it with my hand."
"This is a genuine call for peace in Islam, which is bound and born with aspects of ritual worship, so that it is far from just a slogan," he said.
Yusron further said, the wisdom and spirit of the pilgrimage and qurban worship as mentioned above are of course very relevant to be implemented for all Muslims in Indonesia. Because, in the context of the life of the nation and state today, we are experiencing an era of disruption, which is marked by the amount of chaos and disorder.
First, the civilization of materialism makes some Muslims so preoccupied with the pursuit of world happiness. He fell into a valley of loving the world (hubbud-dunya) and neglected and even feared the coming of death (karahiyatul maut). The low awareness of death, the coming of the end of the day, and the boisterous materialism of life, make the ethical, moral and spiritual religion of no importance. From there, the roots of greed, corruption is rampant. Thus, the momentum of Eid al-Adha should raise awareness of the importance of divinity and religious values present in the daily lives of Muslims.
Second, the phenomenon of low public civility. In some Muslim-populated countries in the Middle East, violence, conflict and terrorism by profiting the name of religion thrive in destroying the civilizations of those countries. The country which was originally safe, is now destroyed. This provides an opportunity for irresponsible people to spread phobia and fear of Islam, that Islam inspires violence and terrorism.
"This is where the role of Indonesian Muslims is to revitalize the spirit and values of wasathi Islam, namely moderate Islam which has long been the face and character of Indonesian Islam. This Islamic understanding of moderate character needs to be transmitted to other Muslim countries. The values of peace contained in the Hajj are the momentum," he explained.
Third, said Yusron, the world today is also marked by growing global inequality between people who are rich with the poor. Hajj and qurban worship teach that the essence of worship as a way to get closer to Allah (Hablum minallah), must be accompanied by hablum minannas. Sacrifice of qurban teaches caring so that Muslims who are capable should care for the poor and poor. God gave strong criticism to people who worshiped, but forgot to pay attention to the situation of the poor in the QS al-Maun as people who deny religion.
Fourth, the Indonesia is currently entering a political year. Differences in political views often threaten ukhuwah and brotherhood both in the context of the ukhuwah Islamiyah and ukhuwah wathaniyah. The split due to differences in political views is sharpened by the spread of hoaxes, slander and utterances of hate in various social communication media that we use such as whatsapp, facebook and others.
"Therefore, it becomes increasingly important for us to emulate the messages of the pilgrimage related to the advice to distance themselves from rafats ,jidal (arguments), and fusuq (or bad deeds and lies). With this provision, God willing, we will avoid divisions due to different contestations and political views," explained the Professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences of UIN Jakarta.
