Women Rectors agree to collaborate in the field of women’s empowerment
Rectorate, UIN News Online – The female Rectors from a number of universities in Indonesia are agree to collaborate in the field of women’s empowerment and gender equality as well as other academic and social service programs. The Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis was also involved in the MoU signing ceremony which was held to coincide with the celebration of Kartini’s Day, Wednesday (04/21/2021).
Apart from the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis and the Rector of ISBI Bandung Een Herdiani, this event was also attended by several other female Rectors. Among them are, the Rector of UIN Palembang Nyayu Khodijah, the Rector of UNPAD Rina Indiastuti, the Rector of ITENAS Meilinda Nurbandasari, the Rector of UNSIKA Sri Mulyani, the Rector of UPN Veteran Erna Hernawati, the Rector of IKJ Indah Tjahjawulan, the Rector of Sam Ratulangi University Ellen Joan Kumat, the Rector of Manado State University Deitje A. Kaatuk, the Rector of Udayana University A. A. Raka Sudewi, and the Rector of Hasanuddin University Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu.
Een Herdiani in her opening remarks said that the agreement was motivated by the need for accelerated empowerment of women which is in line with the ideals of Raden Ajeng Kartini since a century ago.
Apart from empowering women and gender equality, she continued, the collaboration was also focused on a number of educational issues in higher education institutions. “Among them are the implementation of the three pillars of higher education, the independent learning program - an independent campus, human resources capacity building, and institutional governance,” said Een.
Separately, the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis expressed her appreciation for the MoU signing ceremony. She hopes this agreement can be effective in order to accelerate women's empowerment and better gender equality in the country.
“As a state Islamic University, UIN Jakarta is ready to be involved in empowering women in Indonesia,” said Rector Amany.
The signing of the cooperation itself was marked by the reading of Raden Ajeng Kartini's letters to her colleagues. These letters contain her thoughts on the emancipation of women in Indonesia. These letters were read in turn by the Rector of ISBI Bandung, the Rector of UPN Veteran Jakarta, the Rector of UIN Jakarta, the Rectorof IKJ and the Rector of UNSHIKA. (usa/zm)
