Webometrics 2024: UIN Jakarta Achieves Top Ranking Among PTKIN in Indonesia

Jakarta, UIN News Online — The Webometrics ranking agency has released the latest rankings of Indonesian higher education institutions for the July 2024 evaluation period. In this ranking, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta secured the first position in the cluster of State Islamic Religious Universities (PTKIN).

According to the July 2024 Webometrics data quoted by UIN Online News today, Friday (August 2, 2024), the top five positions are occupied by several national public universities; Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Airlangga, Institut Teknologi Bandung, and Universitas Brawijaya.

In the category of State Islamic Religious Universities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta achieved the first position in the Webometrics ranking, with an Impact Rank of 1678, an Openness Rank of 1261, and an Excellence Rank of 3535.

Following UIN Jakarta, the second and third positions in the Webometrics PTKIN cluster are held by UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung and UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, respectively. The subsequent ranks in the same cluster are occupied by UIN Malik Ibrahim Malang, UIN Raden Intan Lampung, UIN Walisongo Semarang, UIN Alauddin Makassar, and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.

Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., expressed his gratitude and appreciation for this achievement. “Alhamdulillah, we are grateful for this achievement, which demonstrates UIN Jakarta's commitment to continually improving its quality and contributions to education,” he stated.

However, Rector Asep Jahar reminded everyone not to be complacent with this achievement. He encouraged the entire academic community to enhance their solidarity and sharpen the realization of academic work, particularly in communication and information dissemination to both the campus community and the wider public.

“This ranking is the result of the hard work of the entire academic community at UIN Jakarta and serves as motivation for us to continue improving quality in various aspects,” he added.

It is known that Webometrics is an international ranking institution based in Spain. This agency measures the performance of universities based on their web presence and impact.

In its ranking, Webometrics uses three main indicators: Impact Rank, Openness Rank, and Excellence Rank.

The Impact Rank indicator is used to measure the number of external backlinks leading to the university's domain as an indication of web influence and visibility. The Openness Rank measures the number of documents that are freely accessible and the number of citations received by the university's publications in Google Scholar.

Finally, the Excellence Rank indicator measures the number of scientific articles from the university that are most frequently cited in each field of study. These three indicators also emphasize the role of higher education institutions in improving the quality of education, research, and community service. (Z. Muttaqin/Maila DHR)
