UIN Jakarta’s Psychology Faculty Pushes for Advancements in Islamic Psychology Research at National Seminar

Zakiyah Daradjat Theater, UIN News Online – To elevate the quality and scope of research in the burgeoning field of Islamic psychology, UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Psychology hosted a National Seminar themed “Improving Research Quality in Islamic Psychology” on Thursday (17/10/2024). The seminar, held at the Prof. Dr. Zakiyah Daradjat Theater, brought together prominent experts and academic leaders to explore the future of Islamic psychology and its role in global research.

Dr. Layyinah, M.Si., a lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology UIN Jakarta, and Dr. Yunita Faela Nisa, M.Psi., Psychologist, the Dean of the Faculty, officially opened the event. Both expressed enthusiasm for the seminar’s potential to foster collaboration and innovation within Islamic psychology, noting that this effort was vital to enhancing the quality and international recognition of research in the field.

The seminar featured presentations from two distinguished speakers: Prof. Dr. Abdul Mujib, M.Ag., M.Si., a leading professor from UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Psychology, and Prof. Drs. Subandi, M.A., Ph.D., Psychologist, from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta.

In his keynote, Prof. Subandi emphasized the growing global influence of Islamic psychology, describing it as an intersection of psychological and Islamic scholarly expertise. He stressed that high-quality research must be guided by a well-structured methodology, a consistent and rigorous process, and publications in internationally recognized platforms like Scopus and SINTA. “The collaboration between Islamic and psychological education institutions is key to pushing this field forward,” he stated.

Prof. Abdul Mujib, in his address, distinguished Islamic psychology from spiritual or religious psychology, defining it as a scientific discipline rooted in Islamic principles, yet sharing the same material object as other psychological sciences. He introduced his research on the Big Five Islamic Personality, a unique adaptation of the widely studied Big Five personality traits from an Islamic perspective.

The seminar served as a valuable platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to exchange ideas, share best practices, and collaborate on future research initiatives. The event concluded with a group photo and a token of appreciation for the guest speakers.

Through this seminar, UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Psychology reaffirmed its commitment to advancing research in Islamic psychology, with the hope that continued efforts will make significant contributions to both the academic and practical applications of this growing field.
