UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Ushuluddin to Host Mā Warā’ al-Nahar Indofestive 2025 & ICOIS 2025 with IIQ and IBISRC
Rectorate Building, UIN Online News – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta’s Faculty of Ushuluddin, in collaboration with the Institute of Qur'anic Sciences (IIQ) Jakarta and the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center (IBISRC) Uzbekistan, is set to host an international-scale exhibition and scholarly gathering: Mā Warā’ al-Nahar Indofestive 2025 and the International Colloquium on Islamic Studies (ICOIS) 2025. The events are scheduled to take place over two days, Thursday-Friday, July 3-4, 2025, at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Jakarta.
In his official statement, Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Prof. Ismatu Ropi, M.A, Ph.D., revealed that the exhibition and scholarly meeting are part of the ongoing "1000 Lights of Indonesia" program. "This is also a follow-up to the visit of 11 delegates researching Imam Bukhari's heritage to Uzbekistan last February," he explained.
Dean Ismatu Ropi stated that the activities will be attended by academics and researchers from various universities in both countries. Thus, the events are expected to be an important part of strengthening academic networks and exploring Islamic heritage that connects the scholarly traditions of Central Asia with Southeast Asia, especially the Nusantara (Indonesian archipelago).
"ICOIS 2025 brings together academics, researchers, and international delegates from Uzbekistan, who are delegates of the Imam Bukhari and Imam Tirmidhi Centers for Hadith Narrator Studies, as well as experts in Islamic Studies from the Imam Maturidi Research Center, and scholars from leading Islamic universities in Indonesia and Uzbekistan," he elaborated.
The Professor of Comparative Religion added that the events are also expected to serve as a platform for education, inspiration, and knowledge exchange for the younger generation, the academic community, and the public in the Greater Jakarta area. "Especially for UIN Jakarta students themselves," he added.
The two-day series of events will feature various scientific presentation sessions discussing important topics such as the development of Hadith science in Mawarannahr, tafsir al-Maturidi (Maturidi's Qur'anic exegesis), the influence of Maturidiyah theological thought, and the transfer of knowledge from Central Asia to the Nusantara. Expert speakers such as Prof. Dr. Mulyadhi Kartanegara, Prof. Dr. Shovosil Ziyodov (Director of Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center), Prof. Kusmana, and various other international academics are scheduled to fill the event lineup.
Additionally, an exhibition themed around the historical journey of Indonesia—covering the era of kingdoms, colonialism, post-independence, and Indonesia's diplomacy to the global world—will also be held. Notably, one of the most influential diplomatic efforts that strengthened emotional ties between Indonesia-Uzbekistan and the wider Muslim world was the influence of Indonesia's first President, Soekarno, in pushing for the discovery of Imam Bukhari's tomb in 1956.
This event will be officially opened on July 3, 2025, at 09.00 WIB, and is expected to foster a deep spirit of Islamic scholarship and strengthen cooperation between scholarly institutions from Central Asia and Southeast Asia. (FU/Nur/Man/M.NTs)
