UIN Jakarta's Doctoral Program in Islamic Banking Earns "Excellent" Accreditation, Expands into Global Islamic Finance
Ciputat, UIN Online News — The Doctoral (Ph.D.) Program in Islamic Banking at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, has officially strengthened its position as one of Indonesia's leading centers for Islamic economics education after receiving the "Excellent" (Unggul) accreditation from the Independent Accreditation Agency for Economics, Management, Business, and Accounting (LAMEMBA). The accreditation was granted under Decree No. 1157/DE/A.5/AR.10/V/2024, issued on 21 May 2024, signifying that the program has exceeded national quality standards and is well-positioned to compete internationally.
Building on this achievement, the program has undergone a strategic transformation by adopting the new name Doctoral Program in Islamic Banking and Finance. The change reflects the rapid evolution of the Islamic financial industry and broadens the program's academic scope. Graduates are now expected to develop expertise not only in Islamic banking but also in Islamic financial technology (fintech), Islamic capital markets, and the governance of Islamic philanthropic institutions (Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah, and Waqf/ZISWAF) on a global scale.
"This Excellent accreditation reflects our commitment to producing policymakers and researchers who are not only grounded in theory but also capable of providing visionary solutions to the increasingly digital global Islamic finance industry," said Prof. Ibnu Qizam, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
The program's academic excellence is supported by a strong scholarly ecosystem. FEB UIN Jakarta is home to distinguished academics and industry practitioners whose research has been published in internationally recognized Scopus-indexed journals. The program also maintains strategic partnerships with international institutions and national financial regulatory authorities.
The program's relevance has also been recognized by industry practitioners. Ahmad K. Permana, an Islamic banking expert and industry professional, described the transformation as highly responsive to current market demands.
"The industry today needs professionals who understand the integration of conventional and Islamic banking with emerging technologies. UIN Jakarta's decision to expand the program into Islamic Banking and Finance opens significantly broader career opportunities for graduates, including positions within regulatory bodies such as the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the wider digital Islamic economy," he said.
For professionals, academics, and researchers seeking to pursue advanced studies in Islamic finance, FEB UIN Jakarta has opened admissions for the 2026/2027 Odd Semester.
