UIN Jakarta's AI-Powered Modern Library Supports Students’ Digital Literacy

South Tangerang, UIN Online News — As a university continuously innovating to provide the best services for its academic community, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has introduced a modern library facility integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

This innovation positions UIN Jakarta’s library as one of the campus’s flagship facilities, keeping pace with the digital era while effectively and efficiently supporting students’ academic activities.

The library now features AI Smart Search, an intelligent search system that allows students to find books, journals, and theses simply by entering basic keywords. Unlike conventional catalogs, this system understands context and provides more relevant and accurate search results.

According to UIN Jakarta library manager Muhammad Ainur Rofiq, the AI Smart Search is especially beneficial for students by accelerating the process of finding references for assignments, research, and thesis writing.

“Many students previously struggled to find the right sources because they had to sort through manual catalogs one by one. Now, with this system, the search results are more focused and relevant,” said Rofiq at the UIN Jakarta library on Friday (May 16, 2025).

He also noted that this feature not only saves time but also helps students understand topic relationships through context-based search recommendations. “For example, when a student searches for the topic ‘religious moderation,’ the system will show books, journals, and theses both directly and indirectly related to the theme,” he added.

Additionally, the library offers a 24-hour AI-powered Virtual Assistant Chatbot to serve users. Students can use this feature to inquire about book availability, extend loan periods, and receive reading recommendations based on their interests or study programs. This reflects UIN Jakarta’s commitment to delivering responsive and accessible services at any time.

Faiha Ramadhania, a student at UIN Jakarta, shared how helpful the AI-powered library has been. “With AI Smart Search and the virtual assistant, I can easily find references for my coursework without needing to physically go to the library. It really makes things easier for us as students,” she said after a visit to the library.

With these facilities, students can access a wide range of knowledge resources from anywhere, at any time, without being limited by space or time.

UIN Jakarta’s efforts in developing an adaptive, AI-driven service ecosystem underline its serious commitment to building a truly modern campus.
