UIN Jakarta will offer scholarships for young Afghan women

Rectorate, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta will offer scholarships for Afghan young women to study for their bachelor’s degree in various faculties at UIN Jakarta.

This was said by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis to UIN News Online after receiving the Afghanistan Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Faizullah Zaki in her office on Wednesday (04/14/2021).

“In Afghanistan, women are often underrepresented in public life and have the lowest literacy rate. Through education, their will be empowered to develop their skills and capacities,” said Rector.

According to Rector Amany, Afghanistan need female role model. But before this can happend, they must have a higher education. “Upon their return, we hope they will become an agent of change that could contribute to greater gender equality and women empowerment in their country,” she said.

Separately, Faizullah Zaki expressed his appreciation towards UIN Jakarta and hoped that his visit would strengthen the good relations between the two countries.

“We strongly believe that UIN Jakarta can fulfill our expectation in reducing gender-based discrimination in Afghanistan through education. Hopefully, we can realize this programs as soon as possible,” he said.

For information, UIN Jakarta has hundreds of international students, including students from Afghanistan. The Afghan students receive full scholarship from the Rector of UIN Jakarta. This is a follow-up action from Indonesian government in providing educational assistance for the citizens of Afghanistan in order to encourage the growth of moderate Islam in their country. (usa)
