UIN Jakarta Will Host the First I-MELT International Conference
Rectorate, UIN News Online – In order to extend the mutual relationship between UIN Jakarta and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and UPM will held The 1st Indonesia-Malaysia International Conference (The 1st -IMELT) at Harun Nasution Auditorium and the Faculty Building of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training  (FITK) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Thursday to Saturday, (March 16-18th, 2017). The big theme of the conference is “Breaking Borders, Enriching ELT Experiencesâ€. Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof Dr Dede Rosyada, is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
The conference convener, Prof. Dr. Arskal Salim GP MA to UIN News Online, Friday, (3/10), explained that this conference is considered necessary undertaken in facing the global competitive challenges.
“English Education and English Literature as well as the practice of its research is an important aspect in facing the era of competition, both ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) and ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) era in the notion of preparing the people through education,†said Arskal.
He also added that this event will involve many academicians from various Islamic and public Universities, the researchers on English language and literature, as well as the English teachers and practitioners.
“This first IMELT will be attended by 36 invited speakers, 236 presenters and 250 participants,†he added.
In a separate place, the conference co-convener Prof Dr Jayakaran Mukundan said that this conference will bring ELT in both Indonesia and Malaysia closer.
“I hope this conference will someday become an important event for teachers and academics not only in the region but throughout the world,†said Mukundan.
The conference will present a number of keynote speakers from across the globe. Among them are Prof. Fuad Abdul Hamied (Indonesia), Prof. Joko Nurkamto (Indonesia), Dr. Ikhsannudin (Indonesia), Dr. Arshad Abd. Samad (Malaysia), Prof. Carolyn Graham (US), Prof. Brian Tomlinson (UK), Prof. Alan Maley (UK), Prof. Hitomi Masuhara (UK), Dr. Ivor Timmis (UK), Jan Blake (UK) and David Reeve (Australia).
For information, UIN Jakarta will host the I-MELT conference for the first time in 2017, while Universiti Putra Malaysia will host in 2018. (usa)
