UIN Jakarta Welcomes Over 9,000 Freshmen with 2025 PBAK Grand Opening

Triguna Field, UIN Online News — UIN Jakarta officially opens its Introduction to Academic Culture and Student Affairs (PBAK) 2025 on Tuesday (August 26, 2025) at the University’s Main Field. The grand event gathered more than 9,000 frehsmen and was attended by national figures, including ministers, government officials, public figures, and millennial preachers.

The grand opening ceremony was led by Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., alongside Senate Chair Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada, M.A., vice rectors, and faculty deans. In his address, the Rector of UIN Jakarta warmly welcomed the new cohort, both those attending on-site and those joining virtually.

“PBAK is more than just an orientation—it’s a gateway to academic life and a platform to shape character,” said Asep Saipudin Jahar. “We want our students to be intellectually sharp, socially aware, nationally minded, and committed to embracing diversity. This generation will be the one to carry Indonesia forward.”

Beyond familiarizing students with academic systems, curricula, and campus life, PBAK also reinforces the university’s commitment to religious moderation, multiculturalism, and patriotism. These values are core pillars that define UIN Jakarta as a leading university integrating science, Islam, and Indonesian identity.

“This is a moment of great privilege,” he added. “Hundreds of thousands applied to UIN Jakarta, but only around 9,100 were accepted. Make the most of this opportunity—study diligently, broaden your experience, and shape your character. The future of UIN, and of this nation, lies in your hands.”

Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D., reported that 9,117 new students are joining PBAK 2025, with 4,500 attending onsite session. This year’s theme is “Students of Today for the World of Tomorrow: Spreading Love, Caring for the Universe”, echoing UIN Jakarta’s tagline Innovation, Green, Humanity. The theme draws inspiration from Minister of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. K.H. Nasaruddin Umar’s Eco-Theology and Curriculum of Love, emphasizing academic excellence alongside social responsibility, environmental care, and humanistic values.

Messages from the National Figures

The orientation featured keynote addresses and public lectures by leading national figures, including Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar; Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti; Minister of Women and Children Empowerment, Arifatul Choiri Fauzi; Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Viada Hafid; Governor of Lemhanas, TB. Ace Hasan Syadzily; and KPU Chairman, Mochammad Afifuddin; Influencers and thought leaders such as Habib Husein Ja’far Al Hadar and YouTuber Jerome Polin also shared their insights.

Meutya Hafid highlighted the urgency of adaptation and innovation in the era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence. "We are in an era of change which is often referred to as the industrial revolution and digital transformation. There are three major currents known as the mega trends of the industrial revolution: physical transformation, digital transformation, and biological transformation," she explained.

Arifatul Choiri Fauzi emphasized the role of higher education as a gateway to the future. “This is a defining moment,” she pointed. “Not only should you pursue academic success, but you must also contribute meaningfully to society. Education needs students who care, who lead with compassion, and who uphold humanity.”

Nasaruddin Umar, in his virtual address, urged students to see PBAK as the first step in their academic journey and as a foundation for a future rooted in knowledge, tolerance, and unity. “Honor diversity, nurture brotherhood, and let compassion guide your path,” he stated.

TB. Ace Hasan Syadzily, emphasized the role of students as agents of change for the nation's progress. "As an Islamic university, I request that the integration of science and Islam must be accompanied by the strengthening of national character," he advised.

Jerome Polin Sijabat, encouraged new UIN Jakarta students to build their personal branding early on and manage their time effectively. He argued that in the digital era, it's not just technical skills that are decisive, but also how a person demonstrates their competence to the public.
