UIN Jakarta-University of Nairobi Ready to Cooperate in Research and Education

Rectorate Building, UIN News Online- UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and the University of Nairobi, Kenya, agreed to cooperate in the field of research and education. This cooperation includes research collaboration, publications, student and staff exchanges, and lecturer visits.

The cooperation agreement was obtained during the visit of UIN Jakarta visit team led by the Head of LP2M UIN Jakarta International Cooperation Service Center, Prof. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem M.A. Ph.D to Kenya (08-12/21/2023). The collaboration with one of Kenya's best public universities ranked #1001-1200 on the QS World University Rankings 2024 was established thanks to the initiation of Prof. Jack Anselm Odhiambo, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Nairobi.

Professor Maila said that the collaboration aims to improve the quality of education and research at both universities, as well as to share knowledge and experience. In addition, this collaboration aims to develop programs that benefit the community.

The cooperation itself is one of UIN Jakarta's efforts to expand its international cooperation network, in line with its vision and mission as a superior and globally competitive Islamic university.

Within the framework of the agreed cooperation, the two universities will hold various academic activities, such as seminars, workshops, conferences, and symposiums. The cooperation will also support curriculum development, joint research, and scientific publications.

Professor Maila welcomed the collaboration and said that it is an important step to enhance UIN Jakarta's international reputation and credibility. "We are very happy and grateful to the University of Nairobi for giving us the opportunity to work together in the field of research and education," she said.

"We hope this collaboration can provide great benefits for both parties and also for the wider community," he added.

Meanwhile, Prof. Jack Anselm Odhiambo, appreciated this collaboration and said that this is a golden opportunity to strengthen relations between Indonesia and Kenya, especially in the field of higher education. "We really appreciate UIN Jakarta as one of the leading Islamic universities in Indonesia and in Asia," he said.

"We hope this cooperation can enhance the academic capacity and competence of both universities, as well as open new opportunities for future cooperation," he added.

This collaboration is expected to be realized soon with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two universities. The MoU will cover the details and mechanisms of the collaboration, including the duration, costs, and responsibilities of each party. (Maila DHR/FNH)
