UIN Jakarta to Host 69th Anniversary Open Senate Convocation, Charting Global Eco-Technology Standards
Rectorate Building, UIN Online News – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is scheduled to convene its 69th Foundation Anniversary Open Senate Convocation on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the historic Harun Nasution Auditorium, Campus I. The grand academic assembly marks the official opening of the university's milestone celebrations, commemorating nearly seven decades of continuous public service in higher education since its inception as the State Academy for Religious Officials (ADIA) in 1957.
Carrying the central executive theme “Celebrating 69 Years of Promoting Inclusive and Global Higher Education in a Nurturing Eco-Technology Environment,” this year's anniversary reflects UIN Jakarta’s deep commitment to expanding highly accessible, globally competitive, and forward-looking higher education powered by sustainable academic ecosystems and modern digital architecture.
The Chairman of the 69th Anniversary Organizing Committee, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, clarified that the theme was carefully selected to illustrate the university's historical journey while outlining its definitive strategic trajectory within the dynamic international higher education sector.
“For almost seven decades, UIN Jakarta has consistently transformed and innovated. This 69th anniversary serves as a vital momentum to reflect on our foundational achievements while reinforcing our institutional pledge to deliver inclusive, world-class education capable of addressing society's needs and rapid technological shifts,” he noted.
The Chairman, who also serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, emphasized that the Open Senate Convocation transcends annual ceremonies, functioning instead as a high-level strategic forum to deliver the university's institutional scorecards, annual financial reflections, and future policy directives.
A comprehensive executive report will highlight UIN Jakarta’s latest international landmarks across academic auditing, research grants, global scientific publications, institutional internationalization, corporate governance, human capital expansion, and advanced campus infrastructure development.
Furthermore, Dr. Zaki added that the anniversary acts as a critical internal consolidation vehicle to accelerate UIN Jakarta’s progress toward absolute global competitiveness.
“Therefore, the committee extends a formal invitation to the entire academic community, our worldwide alumni network, and international corporate partners to attend and witness this 69th Open Senate Convocation. This is a collective celebration honoring the shared contributions of the UIN Jakarta family in advancing education, pioneering research, and executing high-impact civic missions across the nation,” he stated.
According to the official administrative timeline released by the secretariat, the 69th Anniversary Convocation will be attended by the university executive board, members of the academic senate, senior professors, administrative staff, student bodies, prominent alumni, and strategic international diplomats. Beyond the Rector’s definitive state-of-the-university address, the event will feature a curated historical photography exhibition documenting UIN Jakarta's evolutionary milestones.
UIN Jakarta possesses a rich institutional history within the development of progressive Islamic higher education in Southeast Asia. The university tracks its cicalbakal to the State Academy for Religious Officials (ADIA), founded on June 1, 1957, to train elite civil servants and theological experts for the newly independent nation.
In 1960, ADIA was integrated with the State Islamic Higher Education Institution (PTAIN) Yogyakarta to form the unified IAIN al-Jami’ah al-Hukumiyah. However, by 1963, the Jakarta campus officially branched out as an independent entity, operating as IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
A radical structural transformation was achieved on May 20, 2002, when the institution officially converted from an Islamic institute into a comprehensive state university through Presidential Decree Number 31 of 2002. This conversion allowed the campus to radically widen its scientific disciplines, solidifying its modern reputation as a premium, data-driven research university.
Today, UIN Jakarta operates 13 comprehensive Faculties alongside an elite Graduate School. The campus is widely recognized for pioneering secular-religious integrated sciences within the State Islamic Higher Education (PTKIN) network, housing the network's very first Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Health Sciences, and Faculty of Medicine.
