UIN Jakarta: The Passing of KH Ahmad Hasyim Muzadi, the Loss of Ummah and the Nation

Ciputat, UIN NEWS Online— Leaders and civitas academica of UIN Jakarta expressed condolences on the passing of KH Ahmad Hasyim on Thursday morning (16/03/2017) in Malang, East Java. The death of Hashim according to the leaders and civitas academica of UIN Jakarta as a great loss for  Muslims and people of Indonesia of one of the nation's Muslim leaders and influential teacher.

Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada MA, revealed that the passing of the NU Chairman was very surprising and would be a great loss of clerics and teacher figure of the nation. "Personally and as the leader of UIN Jakarta, I offer my condolences on the death of the nation's clerics and teacher, KH Hasyim. Let us pray together that the deceased was placed in the best place in the sight of Allah Almighty," he said.

Rector added, Hasyim is a figure of great clerics who played a major role in maintaining the moderate face of Islam in Indonesia. Moreover, Hashim is the national figure who is persistent in affirming the integration of a nation that has a cultural diversity. "Hopefully we can follow his example and continue his struggles," he continued.

As known that KH Hasyim Muzadi passed away on Thursday morning about 06.15 WIB at his resedence, Pesantren Al-Hikam, Malang City, East Java, after being sick for a while. According to various resources, Hasyim is planned to be buried in the Pesantren Al-Hikam, Depok, West Java.

During his life, the Bangilan, Tuban, August 8, 1944 born cleric is establishing and nurturing Pondok Pesantren Al-Hikam in Malang, East Java, and Depok, West Java. In 1999, Hasyim who has education from Modern Pesantren Darussalam Gontor Ponorogo, Pesantren Al-Anwar Rembang and Pesantren Al-Fahdoli Tuban is assigned to be the Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama. Since January 19, 2015, Hasyim is a member of the Advisory Council of the President.

Commitment to Fight for Ummah and Nation

Besides the rector, a large number of professors and students of UIN Jakarta also admitted the loss on the passing of Hasyim. Dr Abdul Moqsith Ghazali, a Tafsir lecturer at the Faculty of Ushuluddin, for example. According to him, the death of Hasyim is the loss of cleric and national figure that’s full of totality and commitment in fighting for the people of the nation.

As the leader of ummah, Moqsith explained, Hasyim tirelessly held dialogue with them. “He is always going here and there taking care of ummah’s problems. It’s quite tiring, but he never complained. Sometimes there are signs of tiredness in his face, but he chose to ignore it,” he recalled.

As a cleric and national figure, Moqsith added, Hasyim has his own uniqueness. When he held dialogue with the people, Kiai Hasyim liked to use a simple logic that is easily understood by the public. “the complicated problems of state-nationality and humanity, slowly explained by Kiai Hasyim so the dore of the problem is seen and find the solution to that,” he added.

Besides, on finishing the problems of the nation and humanity, kiai Hasyim categorized which befalls under the cleric authorization. “Because to him, religious figures and the governments should joint cooperation on finishing the nation’s problems,” he said. (rs)
