UIN Jakarta, Tangsel City Government, and Skybridge Vendor Discuss Relocation of Campus Front Skybridge

Rectorate Building, UIN Online News — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, together with the South Tangerang City Government and the vendor of the Pedestrian Skybridge (JPO) on Ir. H. Juanda Raya Street, are studying the relocation of the skybridge to a more strategic location: directly in front of the UIN Jakarta Campus. This aims to make the skybridge a viable crossing solution for the public and UIN Jakarta's academic community along Ir. H. Juanda Raya Street, which connects the Ciputat area of South Tangerang to Pasar Jumat, South Jakarta.

This was conveyed by the Vice Rector for General Administration, Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, M.A., on Wednesday (June 11, 2025). The Vice Rector revealed that UIN Jakarta was directly invited by the Assistant to the Regional Secretary (Asda) of the South Tangerang City Government on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, to discuss the utilization of the current skybridge, whose permit is set to expire soon.

“The skybridge was built by a third party for advertising purposes with a permit from the South Tangerang City Government. Its contract will expire this July and it has been a public concern,” he explained.

In the meeting, which was also attended by leaders from the South Tangerang Transportation Agency and the vendor, all parties agreed to review the skybridge's relocation. This is to ensure the skybridge can be optimally utilized, especially by the general public and UIN Jakarta's academic community who need safe and convenient pedestrian access.

The meeting concluded with an agreement on the plan to relocate the skybridge to a closer and more functional location. “The South Tangerang City Government will assist with permit processing up to the central government level. Meanwhile, the vendor will conduct a site survey with UIN Jakarta,” added Prof. Imam Subchi.

UIN Jakarta is also expected to be allocated space on the new skybridge for institutional information or advertisements. The bridge's construction will be designed with user safety, aesthetics, and comfort in mind.

“UIN Jakarta has prepared an initial design as input, and the City Government is committed to accelerating the realization process so that this skybridge can be built soon and benefit all parties,” he stated.

The Vice Rector hopes that the relocation study can be agreed upon and realized promptly, becoming a concrete solution for the academic community's mobility needs. “Of course, we hope this plan can address the UIN Jakarta academic community's need for safer and more orderly mobility in front of Campus I,” he said.

The Vice Rector believes that if this agreement is reached and the relocation can be carried out, the construction of the skybridge will be a concrete solution for better accessibility around the campus. It also serves as an example of positive synergy between higher education institutions, local government, and the private sector.

It is known that the public and UIN Jakarta's academic community had previously proposed relocating the skybridge. UIN Jakarta itself was even prepared to build a skybridge with its own funds, but in line with efficiency policies, the construction plan for the skybridge was temporarily postponed. (zm)
