UIN Jakarta Students Help Educate The Children of Migrant Workers in Malaysia

Malaysia,  UIN NEWS Online  - Four UIN Jakarta students were selected to take part in the 2018 Volunteerism Teaching Indonesian Children (VTIC) program in Sarawak, Malaysia. They will get the task of providing educational assistance to the children of Indonesian migrant workers who work in palm oil fields, Sarawak.

They are Putra Bobi (Education Management Student 7th semester Department of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Sciences, Fauzan Hardianto (Accounting student at the Faculty of Economics and Business 5th semester), Rahmi Hayyu Eksyar (7th semester Faculty of Economics and Business Management Department student), and Mawar Fatmalah (7th semester student of Social and Political Sciences faculty).

Putra Bobi, one of the selected participants  told  UIN NEWS Online   via telephone from Sarawak, Malaysia, Wednesday (08/16/2018) said the students were selected after participating in the VTIC national selection in Jakarta some time ago. They managed to eliminate  1,084 other candidates from a number of universities in Indonesia.

"Of all the prospective participants, only 46 participants passed the selection, including participants from UIN Jakarta," he said.

Other universities that have successfully passed are from the University of Indonesia, Gajah Mada University, Jakarta State University, Lampung State University (Unila), and Makassar Hasanuddin University, South Sulwasesi.

According to Putra, the VTIC program focuses on education for the children of Indonesian migrant workers who work in oil palm fields   Sarawak region of Malaysia. The program lasts 24 days from August 4-26 2018.

During the teaching period, the participants were placed in several   Community Learning Center   (CLC) established by the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Malaysia. The opening of the program was inaugurated by the Indonesian Embassy in Education and Culture Attache Ari Purbayanto in Kuala Lumpur on August 6, 2018.

"Currently there are 54 CLCs that have been formed and placed in each oil palm plantation. The purpose of the establishment of the CLC is an effort to provide opportunities for the children of Indonesian migrant workers to get education from elementary school to college," Putra explained. (usa)
