UIN Jakarta Student Showcases AI-Powered Trash-Collecting Robot at AICIS+ 2025
Depok, UIN Online News — Muhamad Daffa Muis, a student from the Informatics Engineering Program at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, caught the attention of visitors at the Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS+) 2025 with his innovative creation titled Trash-Collecting Robot Using MobileNet-SSD Based on Raspberry Pi.
The robotic project stood out as one of UIN Jakarta’s featured student innovations showcased at the prestigious event.
Daffa explained that the robot is designed to autonomously collect waste using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology by utilizing the MobileNet-SSD system, an AI model capable of detecting specific objects such as plastic bottles. Once detected, the robot activates a mechanical gripper with the capacity of up to 300 grams to pick up the trash and place it into a designated container.
“The next stage of the mechanical development is expected to have the arm handle up to one kilogram,” he added.
Looking ahead, Daffa plans to enhance the robot’s intelligence to identify a wider range of waste materials.
“On the software side, I want to improve the recognition system so it can pick up different types of trash beyond plastic bottles,” he shared.
Expressing his excitement, Daffa shared his pride in exhibiting the project at AICIS+ 2025.
“You know what, it’s an honor to bring my own work to AICIS. This experience is truly valuable and motivates me to keep innovating valuable things,” he expressed.
The participation of Daffa, alongside UIN Jakarta’s lecturers and students, in AICIS+ 2025 stands as clear evidence of the university’s dedication to advancing research and technological innovation in line with its vision as a green, smart, and humanistic university that integrates science, technology, and human values for the benefit of society.
