UIN Jakarta Strengthens Green Campus Initiative Through Waste Management Training
Jakarta, UIN Online News — The UIN Jakarta Center for Green Campus Development held a Waste Management Training Program at the Diorama Hall on Thursday (2/10/2025)), highlighting innovative approaches to campus-based recycling.
The event featured UIN Jakarta Vice Rector Prof. Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D.; Head of the Green Campus Center Prof. Dr. Hendrawati, M.Si.; Environmental Specialist Ikbal Alexander; and PT GPN’s Operations Director, Deden Muljaya.
“We transform plastic waste into diesel and then further condense the diesel into gasoline. From one kilogram of processed plastic waste, we can produce one liter of diesel, which can then be converted into gasoline, with about 20 percent yield due to evaporation,” Environmental Specialist Ikbal Alexander presented.
According to him, recycled products must function as effectively as conventional ones, and they should work just as finely as their conventional counterparts without sacrificing functionality.
Prof. Hendrawati explained that the training is part of a long-term routine, though each session applies different methods to remind and encourage the campus community in processing waste independently.
“This training has been conducted regularly with varied methods, but the aim remains the same: to inform, socialize, and remind us that we can manage waste independently within our campus. Waste must be sorted first—organic and non-organic—because each requires different processing methods,” she ordered.
Closing the session, Prof. Hendrawati expressed her hopes that participants, especially students, would help UIN Jakarta’s program in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness through its Green Campus program.
“We hope participants, upon returning to their classes and communities, will practice waste sorting and encourage peers who did not attend to do the same,” she concluded.
