UIN Jakarta Steps Up Gender Protection Efforts with Launch of PPKS Guidelines
Adia Convention Center, UIN Online News — The Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and launched official guidelines regarding "The Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence," on Thursday (16/10/2025).
Under the theme “Technology and Women’s Empowerment: Strengthening Access and Equality,” the event was attended by members of the academic community and students at the Adia Convention Center, representing the university’s firm commitment to address and prevent cases of sexual violence within the campus environment.
UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., stated that gender issues are not limited to women but also encompass men, who may likewise experience vulnerability and lack of protection.
“What does ‘gender’ actually mean? The term is often equated with women, as though gender only concerns women’s interests, when in fact, men can also be victims of what the term “toxic masculinity” means, he explained.
Prof. Jahar also highlighted the importance of gender literacy across higher education institutions while urging the establishment of a robust protection mechanisms against all forms of violence and discrimination.
“As rector, I strongly encourage that we no longer distinguish between men and women in matters such as research grants, scholarships, and other academic opportunities,” he added.
Then, Dr. Wiwi Siti Sajaroh, M.Ag., Head of PSGA UIN Jakarta, explained that this event serves as an introduction to the new guidelines along with their real-life implementation in UIN Jakarta campuses.
“The FGD aims to promote greater awareness of gender equality and protection policies among all university members, including students, faculty, administrative staff, and leadership,” she stated.
This initiative is part of PSGA’s mandate to ensure the proper implementation of gender equality within UIN Jakarta. By shielding students away from acts of sexual violence, PSGA UIN Jakarta homes a safe and compassionate platform in line with its Task Force R3 (Rumah, Ramah, Rahmah).
