FISIP Auditorium, UIN News Online – Sociology student association of UIN Jakarta held a seminar about terrorism, taking place in the auditorium of the Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP), Campus 2 UIN Jakarta, Thursday, (10/21). This seminar was held in order to fill the sociology week activities as well as to find out more about the phenomenon of terrorism that occurred particularly in Indonesia.

Presents in the seminar, Vice Dean of Student Affairs, Alumni and Cooperation Dr Agus Nugraha MA, BRIGJEN Pol Hamidin (BNPT's prevention director), Virgo Gohardi (Muhammadiyah Young Intellectual Network), and Ulil Abshar Abdalla (Liberal Islam Network).

In his opening remarks, Agus Nugraha appreciated the implementation of this seminar. “I would like to congratulate the Sociology student association which successfully held this seminar, I hope the event attendees can actively participate in a dialogue with the qualified speakers, "said Agus.

According to Hamidin, BNPT has prepared a draft for counter-terrorism. For the future, BNPT will make a preventive or counter-radicalization program as the primary focus.

“To counter the radical mindset in Indonesia, we need to cooperate with several stakeholders, both from the government or non-government, because terrorism has become a global problem, particularly related to al-Qaeda and ISIS.” He said.

At the same place, Ulil Absar Abdalla added that there are no mechanisms that allow or specific laws to arrest people who joined ISIS.

“If they do commit acts of terror or violence in Indonesia, our officers have the rights to take legal action upon them. However, the authority will be weakened when they joined the ISIS.” Said Ulil.

The seminar which attended by students from various study programs is running smoothly, and the participants were quite enthusiastic about the seminar, and they asked questions to the speakers in the question and answer session. (lrf/rdr/sf/ika p/umar)
