UIN Jakarta Secures MORA AIRFUND 2026 for 10 Research Teams, Highest Among Recipient Universities
Ciputat, UIN News Online - UIN Jakarta has once again strengthened its role in research and scholarly development by securing grants from the 2026 Ministry of Religious Affairs – The Awakened Indonesia Research Funds (MORA AIR FUNDS). A total of 10 research teams from UIN Jakarta were selected as grant recipients under the Decree of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Number 380 of 2026. The decision was officially communicated to the awardees on Thursday (17/9/2026) in Ciputat.
Nationally, the MORA AIR FUNDS covers seven research themes: Science and Technology, Health and Pharmacy, Religious Services, Religious Studies, Social Sciences and Humanities, Education and Languages, and Creative Economy.
The selection process was conducted through the eRISPRO application involving several stages, including registration, internal review, administrative screening, proposal substance assessment, interviews, and final offerings. Out of 819 research proposals submitted in 2026, 519 reached the final submission status. Following the selection series, 131 proposals were approved for funding with a total grant allocation of Rp71,851,855,600.
Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation to the faculty members and researchers who successfully secured the funding. According to him, this achievement reinforces the institution's research culture while expanding UIN Jakarta's academic contribution to addressing societal challenges.
“This milestone is expected to further solidify our research culture while broadening UIN Jakarta's academic contribution to resolving various societal issues,” stated Prof. Asep.
Chair of LP2M UIN Jakarta, Prof. Amelia Fauzia, Ph.D., also extended her gratitude to the team at the Center for Research and Development of Religious and Religious Education (Puspenma) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs for facilitating the 2026 MORA AIR FUNDS program.
“We express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Puspenma team at the Ministry of Religious Affairs for seamlessly facilitating the entire MORA AIR FUNDS series. Their support was immensely helpful to our researchers in navigating each stage of the program in a more structured and orderly manner. We hope this constructive collaboration and communication will continue to support the enhancement of research quality and researcher capacity across religious higher education institutions,” she expressed.
Prof. Amelia noted that securing these grants represents a major milestone for UIN Jakarta. According to her, the increase in the number of grant recipients is directly linked to the intensive mentoring provided by LP2M to strengthen researcher capacity and foster an increasingly competitive research ecosystem.
“This achievement is a vital accomplishment for UIN Jakarta. This success is inseparable from LP2M's dedication in providing coaching, enhancing researcher capacity, and building a robust, competitive research ecosystem. The results are evident in the growing number of UIN Jakarta's flagship research projects securing external grants. This demonstrates that the quality and capacity of research at UIN Jakarta continue to advance, signaling that our researchers' work and competence are gaining widespread recognition and trust from funding institutions beyond campus,” she added.
The ten research teams from UIN Jakarta are conducting studies across diverse scholarly fields.
Under the Social Sciences and Humanities theme, Dr. Cucu Nurhayati, M.Si. is developing research on models of interfaith harmony. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ibnu Qizam, S.E., M.Si., Ak., Ca. is examining sharia-financial inclusion across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Turkey.
The Science and Technology theme is represented by Khodijah Hulliyah, M.Si., Ph.D. through research on developing artificial intelligence models and infrastructure for understanding Islamic scholarly texts.
In the Creative Economy sector, Prof. Dr. Agus Salim, S.Ag., M.Si. is developing Eco-Brick Mrica, a circular economy model based on reservoir sediment for eco-friendly material innovation and village empowerment.
Meanwhile, under the Religious Services theme, research includes Prof. Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Ph.D.'s project on the Indonesian Islamic Philanthropy Index (IIPI) and Prof. Amelia Fauzia, Ph.D.'s study on faith-based philanthropy in Indonesia.
The Education and Languages theme features four research projects: Prof. Siti Nurul Azkiyah, Ph.D. is designing the implementation model for compulsory 13-year education under the Ministry of Religious Affairs RI; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ikhsan Tanggok, M.Si. is investigating educational institution needs for Confucianism; Dr. Ainurrafiq, M.Ag. is analyzing local wisdom as an infrastructure for multiculturalism and religious moderation; and Salamah Agung, Ph.D. is researching family education in nurturing religious piety as a foundation for national development.
Consequently, the funded research covers critical issues such as religious moderation, Islamic financial inclusion, artificial intelligence, Islamic digital humanities, circular economy, Islamic philanthropy, education, local wisdom, and family education. This diversity underscores UIN Jakarta's multidisciplinary research scope, which is oriented toward advancing scholarship while responding to societal needs across social, religious, educational, environmental, and development sectors.
Out of 131 teams awarded MORA AIRFUND 2026 grants nationally, the Education and Languages theme received the largest allocation, with 51 teams securing Rp21,059,699,500. Furthermore, Social Sciences and Humanities accounted for 32 teams with Rp13,349,100,600 in funding, while Science and Technology comprised 19 teams funded at Rp19,863,005,000.
Head of the Center for Research and Development of Religious and Religious Education (Puspenma) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr. Ruchman Basori, reminded awardees to conduct their research prioritizing quality, accountability, and integrity.
“We expect this research to be executed with quality, accountability, and complete integrity. Researchers must safeguard the quality of both the process and the output, ensuring that every financial support provided is accountable and delivers tangible benefits,” he stated during a briefing to awardees on Tuesday (22/9/2026).
Securing 10 research team grants in the MORA AIRFUND 2026 continues UIN Jakarta's upward trend in grant acquisition over the past three years.
In 2024, two research teams from UIN Jakarta received funding. Entering 2025, LP2M intensified its support through coaching programs to enhance researcher capacity and readiness for the grant selection process, raising the recipient count to five teams.
This dedicated mentoring continued into 2026. This year, the number of awardee teams doubled compared to the previous year, reaching 10 research teams.
This growth forms part of UIN Jakarta's ongoing commitment to strengthening its research ecosystem, boosting researcher capacity, and expanding access to external research funding sources. Through sustained coaching and capacity building, UIN Jakarta encourages research that generates not only academic outputs, but also meaningful contributions toward community development and strategic problem-solving.
