UIN Jakarta Scouts Introduce Betawi Culture in the land of Srivijaya
Palembang, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta scouts attended the Anak Bumi Sriwijaya traditional ceremony at the Bhineka Tunggal Ika event at the XV National Wirakarya Camp arena for Religious Colleges (PWN XV PTK) held at Jakabaring Sport Center, Palembang, South Sumatra, Tuesday (11/09/2021).
The traditional ceremony was attended by 58 contingents throughout Indonesia. Each contingent proudly wore the traditional clothes of their respective regions.
“The warm nuance of nationalism was felt by the display of the traditional clothes of each region, from Sabang to Merauke so that the essence of this activity could strengthen the relationship between the nation's children even though they came from different ethnic groups,” said the coach of the Bhineka Tunggal Ika Traditional Ceremony who is also the Chairperson of the 2021 PWN XV PTK Committee, Kemas Badaruddin.
The UIN Jakarta contingent itself introduced Betawi traditional clothes, namely Baju Demang for men and Kebaya Encim Kerancang for women.
Baju Demang are traditional clothes worn when formal events are held, such as weddings, cultural gatherings, and meetings of cultural leaders. Likewise, the women's traditional clothes are wearing Betawi batik motifs and colorful tops.
The traditional clothes used are part of the cultural identity. UIN Jakarta Scouts want to show that Betawi culture in modern times can become a new fashion trend along with the times.
The traditional ceremony itself is a ceremonial that becomes the value system and must be obeyed by all its members, the custom is created by the Scout unit in every activity.
Meanwhile, on the first day, the participants did not only attend the Bhineka Tunggal Ika Traditional Ceremony, there were a series of activities that the UIN Jakarta Scout contingent participated in, including Art and Cultural Performances and several Social Service Activities. (usa/ns/ts)
