UIN Jakarta Rises to 15th Nationally in UI GreenMetric 2026 Ranking

Ciputat, UIN Online News – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta achieved 15th place nationally in the 2026 UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings. The achievement was officially announced during the UI GreenMetric Indonesia 2026 Award Ceremony held at Graha Sabha Pramana, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), on Tuesday (September 15, 2026).

The UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings is a ranking initiative launched by Universitas Indonesia (UI) in 2010 to evaluate various aspects of university sustainability, ranging from campus operations and environmental impact to sustainability-oriented education. The 2026 UI GreenMetric theme, “Advancing Sustainable Campuses through Governance, Digitalization, and Integrated Performance,” highlights the strengthening of sustainability through governance, digitalization, and integrated performance.

This marks a significant milestone for UIN Jakarta, rising 16 spots from 31st place nationally in the previous year. The leap reflects UIN Jakarta’s dedicated efforts to foster a healthy, eco-friendly, and sustainable campus environment (Green Campus). Head of the UIN Jakarta Green Campus Center, Prof. Dr. Hendrawati, M.Si., expressed her appreciation to the university leadership and academic community for supporting the institution's green initiatives.

“Thank you for the support and dedication from our leadership and the entire academic community of UIN Jakarta in staying committed to becoming a green, eco-friendly, and sustainable campus,” said Prof. Hendrawati.

This achievement stems from various strategic sustainability programs developed across the university. In the energy sector, UIN Jakarta installed rooftop solar power systems (PLTS) with a capacity of 270.17 kWp across several key facilities, including the Rectorate Building, Harun Nasution Auditorium, the Faculty of Educational Sciences (FITK), and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST).

In waste management, UIN Jakarta operates the Integrated Independent Waste Management Facility (TPSTM) KALIFA (Kelola Alam dan Lingkungan Berfaedah) at the PPG UIN Jakarta campus area. Inaugurated in January 2026, the facility can process up to three tons of waste per day.

Efforts to build a sustainable campus environment also include providing refilling water drinking fountains equipped with advanced filtration systems to ensure safe and clean drinking water. Laboratory testing on Reverse Osmosis (RO) water samples from the Academic Service Corridor confirmed compliance with physical, chemical, and microbiological drinking water standards.

Regarding campus mobility, UIN Jakarta introduced Electric Buses (Bilis) as an eco-friendly transportation option for the academic community. The deployment of Bilis forms part of a broader policy to reduce fossil-fuel vehicle usage within Campus I. Fossil-fuel vehicle parking is being progressively relocated to the rear field of Triguna, while intra-campus transit is served by Bilis routes linking campus entry and exit points, alongside electric motorbikes available for student use.

The expansion of green open spaces also remains a core focus. UIN Jakarta features several green areas, including the UIN Corner Park next to the FITK Building, Taman Cinta UIN in front of the Rectorate Building, and landscaped gardens near the main campus entrance.

Commitment to the Green Campus vision has become an integral part of the university's strategic agenda. During the 2026 UIN Jakarta Leadership Pre-Work Meeting (Pra-Rakerpim), bolstering the Green Campus agenda was framed as a key pillar of institutional transformation, incorporating improved waste management systems and the expanded adoption of renewable energy.

Despite this success, the university administration remains focused on further improvement. UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, emphasized that perfecting waste management across all campus areas remains an ongoing priority requiring prompt action.

I ask the Vice Rector for Administrative and Financial Affairs (Warek 2) and the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Development (Warek 4) to convene a meeting with the Head of the General Administration Bureau (Karo AUK), the team, and all department heads across units. Moving from 31st to 15th nationally marks a vital step in UIN Jakarta’s journey toward sustainable campus management. Through comprehensive environmental initiatives and enhanced governance, UIN Jakarta’s Green Campus program is set to become an embedded culture within the academic community, driving the creation of an eco-friendly and sustainable learning environment.
