UIN Jakarta Rector Emphasizes Professors' Great Responsibilities

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News - UIN Jakarta officially appointed seven professors from the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) on Wednesday (8/5/2024). The event, held at the Harun Auditorium, was lively and attended by the senate chair, rector, vice-rectors, deans, invited guests, and the professors' families.

The senate session was inaugurated by UIN Jakarta's Senate Chair, Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada M.A. He expressed hope that the addition of professors would enhance academic work, theoretical discoveries, and new technologies developed by UIN Jakarta.

He also stated that the increase in professors would be a momentum for UIN Jakarta to enhance academic productivity, generate new theories, and laws imbued with Islamic legal spirit. "Thus, the aspiration to bring Islam into various aspects of life will be palpable," he explained.

UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., revealed that the increase in professor appointments now makes UIN Jakarta the PTKIN (Islamic Higher Education Institution) with the highest number of professors. Currently, there are 138 professors at UIN Jakarta.

Furthermore, he explained that the appointment of professors is a crucial part of university development. The core of a university's reputation lies in the responsibility of its professors.

Rector Asep Saepudin Jahar appreciated the efforts of the professors for their academic achievements in their respective fields. However, behind that, there is a significant responsibility that they must bear.

He stated that professors are true educators, meaning they teach and guide. It doesn't mean that after becoming a professor, they distance themselves from students or become difficult for students to reach. "This is an irony that should not and cannot happen in a university," he expressed.

Additionally, he outlined that being a professor is a complete achievement both in Indonesia and abroad. A professor should always be integrated with the campus and constantly accompany students. "This is what I expect from professors to fulfill and carry out such duties," he hoped.

He reiterated that the responsibility of professors is to maintain and uphold the reputation, especially in research outcomes and international publications. If a professor ceases to publish or produce work, their status as a professor is doubted.

Not only that, he also recounted his efforts as a rector. He has endeavored to expand networks and engage in collaborations with Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. The goal is to conduct student exchanges and mobility to enhance UIN Jakarta's reputation.

"Alhamdulillah, UIN Jakarta ranks 101st in the world in the fields of theology, definitivity, and religion," he clarified.

Rector Asep also invited academics to create a distinction that sets them apart. He believes that although UIN Jakarta may not be able to cover all fields of knowledge, it can still compete and gain reputation. UIN Jakarta and its academics have been recognized by the world and can stand on par with various world-class universities.

"Let's together continue to develop UIN Jakarta so it maintains its reputation. What we will do in the future for the strengthening of administration, management, and networks, we will always do together," he concluded at the end of his speech.
