UIN Jakarta Rector Affirms the Key to Life in Society Is Not Only GPA but Socialization
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online- Rector of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar M.Ag., Ph.D, attended the open senate session of the 132nd graduation ceremony of UIN Jakarta. The event themed “Realizing Advanced Generation Towards Global Recognition” took place at the Harun Nasution Auditorium building on June 8 to 9, 2024.
In his speech, Prof. Asep delivered an inspirational message to the graduates. He invited the graduates to not only pursue the title of number one, but to be the best in everything.
“This is a very happy day because my children and my friends have reached the end of the intended study,” he said.
Prof. Asep said, the struggle that the graduates have done is certainly not easy. Many twists and turns and efforts were made, and this is an achievement that must be grateful for today.
Prof. Asep emphasized the importance of carrying the good name of UIN wherever the alumni are. “You are alumni who carry the symbol and good name of UIN anywhere and in any condition,” he said.
He also reminded that people often see UIN alumni as role models, especially in the religious field. "Sometimes people do not look at what their majors are. If it is a UIN alumnus, he must have been asked to be a priest when performing prayers,” he said.
In addition, the rector of UIN Jakarta also reminded the importance of social personality and the use of social media properly and wisely. GPA achievement is very important, but our life in society is not determined solely by GPA.
“Many aspects are demanded in today's world, even our personality can be tracked and read by anyone,” he continued.
Goodness in socializing is also emphasized as the key to life in society. Our life in society is determined by how far one's social personality, social life, and social communication are good. Humans are creatures that must be respected.
“This is really in accordance with the teachings of Islam, where our goodness is only determined by doing good to fellow humans and God's creatures,” added Prof. Asep.
At the end of his speech, Prof. Asep invited the graduates and invited guests to donate. UIN has a Social Trust Fund (STF) that has contributed to students. However, only 7 percent can be fulfilled.
“Let's share with our brothers who are studying here and around here to donate,” he invited.
