UIN Jakarta Records an Unexpected Surge in Student Applications for the 2026 Saudi Arabia International Civic Mission

JAKARTA, UIN Online News – The State Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has recorded a historic spike in student enrollment for its prestigious Civic Mission (Kuliah Kerja Nyata or KKN) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2026 academic cycle. Designed specifically for senior undergraduate students entering their seventh semester, the transcontinental program acts as an elite practical laboratory to test academic knowledge against real-world global challenges while simultaneously sharpening cross-cultural competency, strategic leadership, and international corporate networking.

Out of 23 highly vetted candidates who successfully cleared the university’s rigorous primary selection phase, an unprecedented 17 elite students formally locked in their deployment to Saudi Arabia, setting a new historical milestone for the university’s global outreach initiatives.

The international field service operates through high-impact, state-sanctioned institutional channels. The selected UIN Jakarta students are strategically deployed across premium operational bases in the Kingdom, which include the Indonesian School of Makkah (SIM), the Indonesian School of Jeddah (SIJ), and the Indonesian School of Riyadh (SIR).

Furthermore, to provide students with direct, high-pressure bureaucratic exposure, the university has secured elite placements within the Indonesian Hajj Affairs Office in Saudi Arabia. This direct integration allows students to participate actively in macro-level public service, logistical management, and diplomatic public relations for foreign pilgrims, reflecting a profound integration of religious devotion and global exploration.

The Head of the Civic Mission Center (PPM) at UIN Jakarta, Ade Rina Farida, M.Si., detailed the innovative operational structural design that sets the Saudi Arabian deployment completely apart from any other international internships offered by regional universities. The program utilizes a unique 40-day hybrid timeframe, meticulously dividing professional academic obligations from personal religious pursuits.

“For the Saudi Arabian deployment, we have structurally engineered a policy where the final ten days are completely liberated for the Umrah pilgrimage and cultural historical tours across the Kingdom,” Farida explained during an institutional briefing. “The core, mandatory academic service duration remains strictly at 30 days, matching all standard international protocols. However, we provide an additional 10-day complimentary window specifically for focused spiritual devotion, bringing the comprehensive deployment to a total of 40 days.”

The exponential rise in applicant volume demonstrates a profound paradigm shift in how contemporary Indonesian students perceive academic requirements. Mandatory field deployment is no longer viewed through a restrictive lens of simple administrative compliance. Instead, the student body treats it as a premium, high-value opportunity to secure transnational experiences.

The rare intersection of conducting professional educational development in the Holy Land while deeply absorbing foundational Islamic civilizational values serves as an elite institutional magnet, cementing UIN Jakarta's position as a pioneer in delivering globally competitive, value-driven higher education.
