UIN Jakarta Pharmacy Students Explore Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Quality Control

Jakarta, UIN Online News – A total of 145 students from the Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, participated in the 2026 industrial visit program, AZION (Azithromycin Industrial Exploration), at PT Galenium Pharmasia in Jakarta, Tuesday–Thursday (October 13–15, 2026). The visit aimed to give students firsthand exposure to manufacturing processes, quality control, and professional practices in the pharmaceutical industry.

According to a press release from FIKES received by UIN Online News on Friday (October 23, 2026), the program, themed Exploring Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Innovation, and Professional Practice, was designed to connect the theoretical knowledge students acquire in the classroom with its practical application in industry. Through the visit, students learned about pharmaceutical production processes, quality standards, occupational safety and health (OSH), and pharmaceutical product management.

“This industrial visit is an important opportunity for students to understand how pharmaceutical science is applied beyond the academic environment. Direct learning experiences in an industrial setting are expected to strengthen students’ understanding of the importance of precision, discipline, responsibility, and compliance with operational and quality control standards,” said apt. Adha Dastu Illahi, M.Farm., one of the faculty members supervising the visit.

The program began with an opening session and welcoming remarks from the company, followed by a presentation on PT Galenium Pharmasia’s corporate profile, an introduction to its products, and an overview of occupational safety and health practices in the workplace. Students then toured several operational facilities to gain insight into pharmaceutical industry workflows.

During the visit, students explored four main areas: production, Quality Control (QC), packaging, and warehousing. In the production area, they learned about the stages involved in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The QC tour provided insights into testing and quality assurance procedures to ensure that products meet established requirements.

Students also learned about product packaging processes and the systems used to manage and store raw materials and finished products in the warehouse. Together, these activities illustrated how different operational units work in coordination to maintain product quality and ensure efficient pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.

Agus Ahmad Yani, S.Si., Apt., a management representative of PT Galenium Pharmasia, introduced the company’s history and its operations in Indonesia’s pharmaceutical and skincare industries. He explained that the company originated as a small pharmacy called PT Nitra in South Jakarta, established in 1960 by Joesoef Bagindo Sutan and his son, dr. Eddy Joesoef. The company subsequently developed several consumer brands that are widely recognized in Indonesia, including Caladine, JF, and Laxadine.

“We hope this visit will give students a practical understanding of the processes and work standards in the pharmaceutical industry. Exposure to various production facilities is expected to broaden their knowledge while raising awareness of the importance of quality, precision, workplace safety, and innovation in pharmaceutical manufacturing,” he said.

FIKES leadership hopes that AZION 2026 will continue to strengthen experiential learning and prepare Pharmacy Study Program students to meet professional challenges in the workplace. Understanding manufacturing processes and quality control systems is expected to equip students with the skills, critical thinking, and adaptability needed to keep pace with advances in pharmaceutical science and technology.
