UIN Jakarta must become a benchmark for PTKIN throughout Indonesia

Rectorate, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta is expected to become a benchmark for PTKIN throughout Indonesia. Aside from having good infrastructure, UIN Jakarta also has an adequate human resources.

This was said by the Director of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and Culture Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN) / Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Hadiat during the Focused Group Discussion (FGD) entitled “Arah Kebijakan Pembangunan Pendidikan Tinggi Islam” , held at UIN Jakarta’s meeting room (RSU), Thursday (01/09/2020).

Hadiat said that there were at least two programs that had to be used as a reference in developing Islamic higher education institutions (PTKIN), namely the improvement and development of Islamic higher institutions related to infrastructure or facilities and the learning process quality improvement coupled with the availability of adequate human resources.

Meanwhile, the Director of Islamic Higher Institution (Diktis), Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs Arskal Salim said, in order to improve the quality of PTKIN, the Directorate of Islamic Higher Education will continue to encourage PTKIN to be on par with other state universities (PTN). In addition to infrastructure development, human resources such as teaching staff must also be considered.

According to Arskal, Diktis already has a lecturer quality improvement program. The program includes 5000 doctoral scholarships and the Advanced Doctoral Program (PMLD). “PMLD, which began in 2019, is projected in two PTKIN, namely UIN Jakarta and UIN Yogyakarta,” he said.

In response, Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis stated that UIN Jakarta will continue to improve its quality. This is in line with the high public expectations of UIN Jakarta. This can be seen from the high number of prospective new students who enroll at UIN Jakarta every year.

“In 2019, there were 12,697 prospective students who enroll through SNMPTN, 19,919 SBMPTN, 116,060 through the SPAN PTKIN, 28,547 through the UM PTKIN, and 31,349 through the SPMB MANDIRI,” said Rector.

Amany also stressed that the rising trend in interest will be balanced with efforts in improving its educational quality.  “The aim of UIN Jakarta is to prepare future generations who have high capability and competitiveness in facing the challenges of global labor market,” said Rector. (usa/ns)
