UIN Jakarta Lecturer and Graduate Student Win Prestigious Nusantara Academic Writing Award 2025
Jakarta, UIN Online News — A lecturer and a graduate student from Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta have been recognized in the Nusantara Academic Writing Award (NAWA) 2025, a national competition organized by the Nusantara Institute.
The award recognizes outstanding master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation proposals exploring Indonesia’s local traditions, cultures, and religious practices. This year’s event was held in Salatiga, Central Java, on Friday (26/9/2025).
Of the seven awardees announced, two represents UIN Jakarta:

Siti Rohwati, a master’s student, is recognized for her thesis titled “Islam dan Budaya Lokal: Studi Tradisi Puasa Adat di Masyarakat Blora."

Novi Diah Haryanti, a lecturer in Indonesian Language and Literature Education at the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, is recognized for her doctoral dissertation titled “Di Antara Tradisi dan Modernitas: Strategi Negosiasi Tokoh Perempuan terhadap Habitus di Pesantren dalam Empat Novel Karya Perempuan Penulis Pesantren."
The competition, themed “Cultural Dialogue & Nusantara Academic Writing,” has been held annually since 2019, with support from Bakti BCA and, since 2024, the Bakti Pendidikan Djarum Foundation. The 2025 edition was organized in collaboration with Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana.
Sumanto Al Qurtuby, Ph.D., Founder and Director of the Nusantara Institute and Chair of the NAWA Jury, explained the program’s purpose:
“This initiative is designed to provide encouragement and stimulus for young academics and intellectuals working on their theses or dissertations, motivating them to complete their graduate or doctoral studies,” he added.
Each year, NAWA attracts between 150 and 200 applicants, offering recipients financial assistance for thesis or dissertation writing, certificates of recognition, and opportunities to engage in projects initiated by the Nusantara Institute.
The recognition of Siti Rohwati and Novi Diah Haryanti underscores UIN Jakarta’s pride in its academic community and its contribution to advancing scholarship on Indonesia’s diverse traditions and cultures.
