UIN Jakarta Law Faculty Marks 59th Anniversary, Leveraging Elite Alumni Network to Launch Endowment Fund
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News – The Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta celebrated its 59th anniversary by hosting a Grand Alumni Homecoming and Dies Natalis at the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Carrying the theme “Strengthening Networks and Alumni Contributions of the Faculty of Sharia and Law,” the convention served as a landmark momentum to reconnect generations of legal graduates while driving alumni contributions toward institutional expansion and student financial aid schemes.
The grand assembly was attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, the Dean of FSH, Prof. Muhammad Maksum, alongside university executives, senior faculty, and hundreds of alumni spanning various graduating cohorts.
Among the high-profile senior alumni in attendance were Dr. Wahiduddin Adams, former Constitutional Court Justice of the Republic of Indonesia; Prof. Amin Suma, Senior Professor at UIN Jakarta; Guspardi Gaus, Member of the Indonesian Parliament (DPR RI); and Prof. Masykuri Abdillah, prominent Islamic Scholar. Also present was the Chairman of the FSH Alumni Association (IKA FSH), M. Najib Ibrahim, who currently serves as the Head of the Parliamentary News Bureau at the Secretariat General of the House of Representatives.
In his welcoming address, Rector Asep Jahar emphasized that the Faculty of Sharia and Law has played a foundational role in driving UIN Jakarta’s modern academic growth. Consequently, active alumni engagement is a strategic necessity to maintain and expand the university's global milestones.
“UIN Jakarta continues to make aggressive strides on the global stage. We have successfully climbed to Rank 29 in the world for Religious Studies, Divinity, and Theology in the latest international subject rankings, rising significantly from our previous position at Rank 45 globally. This surge proves that our institutional model harmoniously integrating classical Islamic sciences with modern legal knowledge is operating on the correct track. Our collective task now is to sustain and develop this momentum together,” the Rector stated.
The Rector noted that core religious and theological studies will remain a central priority of the university, updated continuously within an interdisciplinary framework to ensure modern market relevance. He urged alumni to reinforce the university’s central Endowment Fund. This financial instrument is increasingly vital to sustain institutional research and fund high-potential students from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds.
“UIN Jakarta’s global reputation is deeply intertwined with the achievements of its individual faculties, particularly the Faculty of Sharia and Law and its formidable alumni network. Therefore, the financial and academic collaboration bridging the university and its graduates must be continuously fortified,” Rector Jahar asserted.
Concurrently, the Dean of FSH, Prof. Muhammad Maksum, explained that the 59th anniversary marks a period of deep reflection for the faculty, which was established in 1967. Over nearly six decades, the institution has produced thousands of legal practitioners, scholars, and policymakers who shape the nation’s statutory landscape.
During the convention, the Dean invited alumni to participate in the construction of the new FSH Historical Gallery and Museum, an ongoing project curated to archive the academic and student activism milestones of the faculty since its inception.
“We invite our global alumni network to contribute historical documents, vintage photographs, and academic archives. This museum will safeguard the collective memory of our long institutional journey,” Prof. Maksum noted.
Prof. Maksum detailed that FSH currently operates nine comprehensive study programs across undergraduate, Master's, and Doctoral levels. Every program has achieved the highest national accreditation tier ("Unggul") alongside verified international certifications. Furthermore, the faculty boasts one of the largest concentrations of full professors in Sharia and Jurisprudence in Southeast Asia.
To accelerate future institutional development, the Dean outlined four core areas where alumni contributions are highly prioritized:
-
Alumni Endowment Support: Expanding scholarship allocations to aid students facing financial hardships, noting that roughly 40 percent of the current student body comes from lower-to-middle socioeconomic backgrounds.
-
Infrastructure Modernization: Funding advanced pedagogical infrastructure, including the development of AI-integrated smart classrooms and digitized mock courtrooms.
-
"Road to Career" Mentorship: Establishing structured professional pipelines where distinguished alumni act as corporate and judicial mentors for active seniors.
-
Digital Alumni Database: Upgrading the centralized data-tracking network to maximize global professional collaboration and networking opportunities.
The 59th anniversary concluded with a shared commitment between the faculty executive board and the alumni association to transform FSH UIN Jakarta into an international hub for progressive legal education and ethical jurisprudence.
