UIN Jakarta Launches the Center for Religious Moderation Studies

Ciputat, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta launched the Center for Religious Moderation Studies in Ciputat, Monday (10/26/2020). This study center is expected to strengthen the contribution of UIN Jakarta in encouraging the tolerance and harmony between religions as well as to sharpen the role of religion in encouraging the development of Indonesian human values.

The launching of the Study Center itself was carried out directly by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Amany Lubis, and witnessed by the Vice Rectors, Deans, and UIN Jakarta’s heads of institute. The launch was also marked by a webinar that presented religious moderation experts as speakers.

Amany in her remarks appreciates the launch of the Center for Religious Moderation Studies at UIN Jakarta. She also hoped that the presence of this institution could continue to strengthen the role of UIN Jakarta in encouraging a tolerant religious life “Insya Allah, the Center for Religious Moderation Studies will advance the role of UIN Jakarta in supporting the life of religious moderation in Indonesia,” said Rector.

According to Amany, the values of moderation have actually been actualized for a long time by UIN Jakarta through its academic culture. However, the pluralistic life of Indonesian society today demands that religious moderation to be more mainstreamed.

Rector Amany also reminded that the issue of religious moderation is the responsibility of all religious communities in Indonesia. Religions and religious communities in Indonesia must share the same responsibility in fostering tolerance attitudes.

In addition, she also emphasized that the issue of religious moderation is not merely the duty and responsibility of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. Other ministries within the Indonesian Government bear the same responsibility through policies and programs carried out by their respective institutions such as in the agricultural sector, foreign diplomacy, education and culture, and others.

Meanwhile, as the head of the Center for Religious Moderation Studies at UIN Jakarta, Ahmad Ilyas Ismail targeting a number of moderation acts of religion in Indonesia to be implemented immediately. In addition to programs to strengthen people's understanding of the importance of religious moderation, his party will also conduct research and advocacy based on religious moderation in the country.

“With the inauguration of this study center, I hope that UIN Jakarta can become a role model in encouraging the values of tolerance in Indonesia,” he said. (usa/zm)
