UIN Jakarta joins the global day of prayer for humanity

Rectorate, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta joins the global day of prayer for humanity, promoted by the Higher Committee for Human Fraternity (HCHF) through Zoom platform on Thursday, (05/14/2020) with the intention of asking God helps to save humanity from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event was led by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis, and accompanied by the HCHF Secretary-General Mohamed Abdelsalam had received many supports from various national and international figures, among them are Said Agil Husin Al-Munawwar (professor of the Ushuluddin Faculty of UIN Jakarta), Father Simon PL Tjahyadi (Catholic), Priest Elga Sarapung (Christian), Bhikkhu Dhammasubho Mahathera (Buddha), KS Arsana (Hindu), Uung Sendana (Confucian), Azyumardi Azra (professor of the Adab and Humanities Faculty), and Jimly Asshiddiqie (Chairman of the Indonesian Muslim Intellectual Association).

Ahmad Omar Chapakia (Thai Muslim community leader), Ilham Syahin (Director of Majma Buhus Islamiah Al-Azhar, Cairo), Abdul Aziz Munadil (Rector of Ibn Tufail University, Morocco), Ashraf Darfili (Rector of the International Islamic University of Islamabad, Pakistan), and the Egyptian ambassador to Indonesia Ahmed Amr Ahmed Moawad were also present during the event.

Amany Lubis in her remarks said that the event is aimed to spiritually unite all Muslims for the common good. “We will implore God for his grace and mercy and trust that He will respond to the hopes of millions of faithful asking to be saved from this global health crisis,” she said.

Meanwhile, the HFCH Secretary-General Mohamed Abdelsalam also gave his appreciation to UIN Jakarta for inviting all prominent religious leaders to pray according to their respective beliefs. In fact, he also praised President Joko Widodo for initiating a national prayer ceremony.

“The Committee also expresses its immense thanks to the doctors and nurses who have fought and dedicated their services to humanity. May their devotion be rewarded by the God Almighty,” he said. (usa)
