UIN Jakarta Invites UNJ Rector in Pre-Leadership Meeting 2026 to Discuss Higher Education Transformation Toward Institutional Independence
Syahida Inn, Ciputat, UIN News Online — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta invited the Rector of Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), Prof. Dr. Komarudin, M.Si., as a keynote speaker in the 2026 Pre-Leadership Meeting (Pre-LM), held at Syahida Inn on Monday, 2 February 2026.
The forum is part of UIN Jakarta’s strategic agenda to strengthen institutional governance, enhance organizational capacity, and accelerate transformation toward a more autonomous and competitive higher education system.
The event was attended by university leadership, including the Rector, Vice Rectors, Deans, Directors of Graduate School, Heads of Bureaus, Heads of Institutions, Center Directors, and unit leaders across UIN Jakarta.
In his presentation, Prof. Komarudin emphasized that higher education institutions must continuously reform their governance systems in response to global change, technological disruption, and increasing demands for sustainable development.
He stated that universities today are no longer only responsible for producing graduates, but must also function as centers of innovation, drivers of social transformation, and contributors to a knowledge-based economy.
“If we want to move toward independence, the first thing that must be strengthened is governance. Without strong governance, universities will struggle to adapt to change,” he said.
He explained that university autonomy can be understood through four dimensions: academic autonomy, institutional autonomy, financial autonomy, and social autonomy.
Academic autonomy includes curriculum flexibility, research agenda setting, and quality-oriented learning systems. Institutional autonomy focuses on transparent governance, visionary leadership, and innovative organizational culture.
Financial autonomy requires diversification of funding sources through industry collaboration, research commercialization, and development of revenue-generating units. Meanwhile, social autonomy positions universities as active partners of society through research-based community engagement.
Prof. Komarudin also highlighted the importance of “creative funding” strategies, encouraging universities to develop sustainable financial models through:
- Service and consulting centers
- Training and certification programs
- Commercial laboratories
- Teaching factories and teaching farms
- Continuing education programs
- Hospital and clinical services
He noted that these initiatives are essential for strengthening institutional resilience and reducing dependence on traditional funding sources.
The presentation also addressed several challenges in higher education transformation, including internal resistance to change, uneven managerial capacity, institutional disparities, and the risk of over-commercialization.
He stressed the importance of balancing institutional autonomy with government roles as regulator, facilitator, and quality assurance authority.
The discussion is expected to provide strategic input for UIN Jakarta in formulating its 2026 institutional roadmap, particularly in strengthening governance, accelerating digital transformation, and preparing for higher education institutional autonomy.
Through the 2026 Pre-Leadership Meeting, UIN Jakarta reaffirms its commitment to building a more adaptive, innovative, and globally competitive university system.
