UIN Jakarta Inaugurates Seven New Professors, Strengthening Its Academic Leadership
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News—Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta marked a new milestone in strengthening its academic capacity by inaugurating seven full professors during an Open Senate Session on Wednesday (January 14, 2026). This inauguration officially increased the total number of professors at UIN Jakarta to 151, further solidifying its position as the State Islamic Higher Education Institution (PTKIN) with the largest number of professors in Indonesia.
In his address, Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepuddin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., stated that the increase in the number of professors is part of the university’s major transformation toward global excellence. However, he emphasized that the title also carries a significant moral responsibility.
“A professorship is a mandate as the highest academic achievement. I emphasize to those inaugurated today: continue to serve, because knowledge is not for oneself but for society. Commitment and integrity must be placed above all else,” Prof. Asep asserted.
Highlighting integrity over administrative requirements, the Rector explained that academic productivity—such as publishing books and journal articles every three years—represents only the minimum administrative obligation. He expressed his hope that the newly appointed professors would be driven by a genuine love for knowledge.
“Do not merely pursue allowances, but serve out of devotion to knowledge. Become the front line in advancing Islamic education, as pioneered by our great scholars such as Prof. Harun Nasution and Prof. Azyumardi Azra,” he added.
The seven newly inaugurated professors represent a wide range of academic disciplines, from advanced technology to Islamic law: Prof. Dr. Gun Gun Heryanto, M.Si. (Political Communication); Prof. Dr. Agus Salim, S.Ag., M.Si. (Applied Biology/Ecology); Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Artificial Intelligence); Prof. Dr. H. M. Yakub, M.A. (Islamic History and Civilization); Prof. Dr. Drs. KH. Mujar Ibnu Syarif, S.H., M.Ag. (Comparative Islamic Constitutional Law); Prof. Dr. H. Mahsusi, M.M. (Human Resource Management in Islamic Education); and Prof. Dr. H. Kholid Al-Walid, M.Ag. (Islamic Philosophy). With a total of 151 professors, UIN Jakarta remains optimistic about continuing its leadership in Islamic education innovation and making tangible contributions to national development in the modern era.
