UIN Jakarta Inaugurates Seven New Professors, Including the First Professor of Artificial Intelligence in Indonesia's State Islamic Higher Education System
Jakarta, UIN News Online — UIN Jakarta has inaugurated seven new professors, reinforcing the University's position as one of Indonesia's leading centers of research and scholarship. Among the newly appointed academics is Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana, who becomes the first Professor of Artificial Intelligence within Indonesia's State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN).
The inauguration ceremony was held on 14 January 2026 at the University's Harun Nasution Auditorium during an Open Senate Session attended by university leaders, faculty members, students, alumni, and invited guests.
The newly inaugurated professors represent a broad range of academic disciplines, including Political Communication, Applied Biology (Ecology), Artificial Intelligence, Islamic History and Civilization, Comparative Islamic Constitutional Law, Human Resource Management in Islamic Education, and Islamic Philosophy.
The appointments reflect UIN Jakarta's continued commitment to advancing interdisciplinary scholarship that bridges Islamic studies, science, technology, and the humanities while addressing contemporary societal challenges.
The inauguration of Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana as the first Professor of Artificial Intelligence in Indonesia's State Islamic Higher Education system marks a significant milestone in the University's efforts to strengthen research and innovation in emerging technologies.
During the ceremony, each professor delivered an inaugural lecture presenting their latest scholarly perspectives within their respective fields. The lectures addressed a wide range of contemporary issues, including digital political communication, ecological restoration, artificial intelligence, Islamic civilization, constitutional law, educational leadership, and Islamic philosophy—demonstrating the breadth of expertise that continues to shape UIN Jakarta's academic community.
In his remarks, Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., described the appointments as an important milestone for both the University and Indonesia's higher education sector.
"Becoming a professor is the highest academic distinction, but it is also a profound responsibility. Scholarship must extend beyond personal achievement—it should contribute to society, advance knowledge, and provide solutions to the challenges facing humanity," he said.
The Rector encouraged the newly inaugurated professors to continue producing impactful research, mentoring future scholars, and strengthening collaboration across disciplines.
With the addition of seven new professors, UIN Jakarta further expands its academic leadership and research capacity, reinforcing its role as one of Indonesia's foremost Islamic universities.
