UIN Jakarta Inaugurates Prof. Mujar Ibnu Syarif as Professor of Comparative Islamic Constitutional Law

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News—The Open Senate Session of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially inaugurated seven professors, one of whom was Prof. Dr. Drs. KH. Mujar Ibnu Syarif, M.H., M.Ag., as Professor in the field of Comparative Islamic Constitutional Law. The ceremony was attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., and the Chairman of the UIN Jakarta Senate, Prof. Dr. KH. Dede Rosyada, M.A., along with university leaders, and was held at the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Wednesday (January 14, 2026).

Prof. Mujar’s academic journey began with his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Sharia and Law, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. He later completed his master’s degree at the same institution in 1999 and earned his doctoral degree from UIN Jakarta in 2005.

His long academic record formed the foundation of his inaugural lecture entitled “Minority Political Participation from the Perspective of Comparative Islamic Constitutional Law and Its Relevance in the Context of Indonesia and Singapore.” In his address, he called on the international community to recognize the importance of treating minority citizens, wherever they reside, on an equal footing with the majority.

“It is time for countries in any part of the world that face situations similar to Indonesia and Singapore to jointly support national policies that guarantee equal political participation rights for minorities,” he stated.

In addition to serving as a lecturer at the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) UIN Jakarta, Prof. Mujar is also the leader of Darussiyasah Islamic Boarding School located in North Serpong District, South Tangerang, Banten Province. In the social sphere, he previously served as a Member of the Central MUI Fatwa Commission (2007–2011), a Member of the National Executive Council of the Association of Indonesian Sharia Scholars (HISSI) in 2007, and currently holds the position of Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of North Serpong District, South Tangerang City.

As an Islamic thinker, Prof. Mujar has authored several books as well as academic journals and articles published both offline and online. His published books include Political Rights of Non-Muslim Minorities in Islamic Communities (Angkasa Publisher, Bandung, 2004), Introduction to Legal Studies (UIN Jakarta Press, 2009), and Religious Moderation in State Governance in Southeast Asia: A Comparative Study of Indonesia, Singapore, and Brunei (Mega Adhi Samitra Publisher, 2020).

His published articles and journals include Contemporary Islamic Political Discourse on Political Ethics of State Officers (published in the Sharia Journal, University of Malaya, 2011), Political Discrimination Against Non-Muslims in Contemporary Indonesia (Atlantis Press, 2017), and A Comparative Analysis of Minority Political Participation from an Islamic Perspective in Indonesia and Singapore (Scopus Q1 Journal, Al-Istinbath Journal, IAIN Curup, Bengkulu, Indonesia, Vol. 9, No. 2, 2024).
