UIN Jakarta Inaugurates Prof. Mahsusi as Professor of Islamic Education Human Resource Management

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News—The Open Senate Session of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially inaugurated seven full professors, including Prof. Dr. H. Mahsusi, M.M., as Professor in the Field of Human Resource Management for Islamic Education. The ceremony was held at the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Wednesday (January 14, 2026).

The event was attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D.; the Chair of the UIN Jakarta Senate, Prof. Dr. KH. Dede Rosyada, M.A.; the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., M.A.; the Vice Rector for General Administration, Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, M.A.; the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D.; faculty deans, members of the academic community, and invited guests.

Drawing from his experience as an academic, Prof. Mahsusi, in his inaugural lecture entitled “Integrating Religiosity to Develop Excellent Human Resources in Islamic Education,” emphasized that the main challenge facing Islamic education today lies in the imbalance between intellectual advancement and the strengthening of religious values. According to him, improvements in intelligence, creativity, and technological mastery have not been fully accompanied by the development of attitudes, morals, and ethical conduct.

“Our knowledge and intelligence continue to improve, but our attitudes, morals, and character tend to decline. Therefore, Islamic education must be able to integrate science and religion in a substantive way, not merely as a formality,” he stated.

He stressed that religiosity must be internalized in the educational process to produce individuals who are not only intellectually capable but also ethical in behavior.

“What we hope for is intelligence that is accompanied by moral character,” he added.

In addition, Prof. Mahsusi highlighted the importance of strengthening the madrasah education system through the development of boarding school models that have become national icons, such as MAN Insan Cendekia. He argued that this model needs to be studied and replicated more broadly to improve the quality of madrasah education nationwide so that it can be equal to, or even surpass, general schooling.

“Serious study and shared commitment are needed to ensure that madrasah education can improve nationally,” he emphasized.

Prof. Mahsusi has a long track record as both an academic and a bureaucrat in the field of Islamic education. Born in Nganjuk, East Java, he completed his higher education at the Faculty of Tarbiyah, IAIN Jakarta, where he graduated as an exemplary, the best, and the fastest student. His academic and bureaucratic experience, including serving as Head of the Personnel Bureau of the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and Head of the Education and Training Center for Technical Educational and Religious Personnel, has shaped his expertise in managing and developing educational human resources. His international experience through various collaborations and visits to countries such as Japan, China, the United States, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia has further enriched his perspective on the challenges of developing educational human resources in the global era. After retiring at the end of 2020, he returned to teaching and advancing scholarship at UIN Jakarta.

The inauguration of Prof. Dr. H. Mahsusi, M.M., received appreciation and congratulations from various parties, including the Director General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Head of the Bureau of the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Head of MAN Insan Cendekia, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at UIN Jakarta, and the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
