UIN Jakarta Hosts Pedagogical Training for Lecturers, Discusses AI Integration in Teaching
Junior Ballroom ADIA Suites, UIN News Online – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, through its Quality Assurance Institute (Lembaga Penjaminan Mutu - LPM), organized the 4th Batch of Faculty Pedagogical Training titled “AI in Education” at the Junior Ballroom of ADIA Suites on Wednesday (19/08/2026).
The event was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., SH, MH, MA; the Head of LPM, Prof. Dr. Khamami Zada, SH, MA; and the Head of the LPM Quality Standards Development Center, Jejen Jaenudin, Ph.D.
The training was attended by faculty representatives across various departments, including the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK), the Faculty of Usuluddin (FU), the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), among others. The program aims to enhance lecturers' pedagogical competencies in adaptively and innovatively designing and integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology into higher education learning processes.
The training series comprised two interactive sessions featuring expert speakers. In the first session, Professor of Mathematics Education at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Prof. H. Tatang Herman, M.Ed., delivered a presentation titled “Redesigning Learning and Assessment in the AI Era”.
During his presentation, Prof. Tatang underscored the importance of a paradigm shift among educators. According to him, AI should be utilized as a supporting tool without compromising ethical considerations or student competency achievements.
“The primary outcome of this activity is to shift the paradigm: in this era of AI disruption, lecturers must adapt their perspectives, traditions, and practices in higher education. Students should not be allowed to rely entirely on AI for their academic assignments without intentional consideration of the core competencies that need to be developed,” Prof. Tatang stated.
He also highlighted the greatest challenge currently faced by lecturers: sustaining the development of students' reasoning, critical thinking, creativity, and analytical skills amid the convenience of AI tools that provide answers in mere seconds.
In the second session, Professor of Mathematics Education at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Prof. Yus Mochamad Cholily, M.Si., presented a topic titled “Personalized Learning with AI: Creating Adaptive and Differentiated Classrooms”.
Prof. Yus emphasized that AI has now become an integral component of the educational ecosystem, both within and outside campus environments. Therefore, UIN Jakarta faculty members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with utilizing such technologies in their pedagogical approaches.
To respond to this development, Prof. Yus noted that Project-Based Learning (PBL) represents the most suitable framework to synergize with AI integration.
“The most effective method for lecturers to implement is Project-Based Learning (PBL). Educators must reconstruct the role of the classroom from being purely teaching-based to focusing on the learning process. Students must be provided with opportunities to showcase their work, expertise, and problem-solving processes,” concluded the educator affectionately known as the “Mathematics Worker”.
Through this training, faculty members are expected to adapt their teaching methodologies to meet students' diverse characteristics. This initiative is particularly timely with the start of the new academic year and the matriculation of new UIN Jakarta students, ensuring instructional quality remains excellent and aligned with contemporary advancements.
