UIN Jakarta Held Mental Health Talkshow to Commemorate International Volunteers Day
Ciputat, UIN News Online - In commemoration of International Volunteers Day (IVD), UIN Jakarta, together with Social Trust Fund (STF) which is an institution engaged in social and humanitarian affairs, organizes Talkshow discussing mental health frequently every year. This year's event brought a big theme that is aligned with the value of solidarity and social care, which is the basis for the establishment of STF UIN Jakarta, namely “Sharing and Caring”, Thursday (5/12/2024).
Director of STF as well as the chairman of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M), Prof. Amelia Fauzia, Ph.D., in her speech said, “STF annually holds International Volunteers Days because STF is built by the solidarity of the people because there is a desire for sharing and caring, it is so important for us to build a sense of solidarity, so let's together continue to grow and develop that sense in ourselves,” she invited all UIN Jakarta students.
Event Chairman, Zainul Farihin, revealed that “This year, IVD activities consist of several activities, including; Mental Health talkshow which is being held today, Free Vespa Ojek on Friday and operasi semut as well as free health checks at Situ Gintung on Sunday.” He explained the series of IVD 2024 events.
In addition, to implement the campus commitment in this series of IVD activities, there is a talk show on mental health entitled "It's Ok Not to Be Ok: The Art of Appreciating and Loving Yourself." The event was attended by Professor of the Faculty of Psychology, Prof. Rena Latifa, M.Psi., and Psychologist and Mental Health Nursing Department, Eni Nur'aini, S.Kep., M.Sc., Ph.D., discussing various mental health issues, ranging from how to maintain the mental health of final semester students, the importance of physical exercise in reducing stress, also how to recognize the characteristics of mental disorders.
In her presentation, Prof. Rena Latifa underlined the importance of self-acceptance and sincerity in facing life's challenges. According to her, “Sincerity is able to provide positive energy that helps a person live life more calmly,” explained Prof. Rena Latifa.
Meanwhile, Eni Nur'aini explained that psychological conditions greatly affect the way a person communicates. She also encouraged participants to have the courage to express what they feel, while emphasizing that stress is a natural human response. “Learn to understand your own emotions, you have every right to do so, but don't be overambitious,” she said.
In addition to the talk show, the event also provided free health check-up services for the participants, which were utilized enthusiastically. The interactive atmosphere of the event made the question and answer session one of the most anticipated moments, before finally closing with a group photo session.
This year's International Volunteers Day is not just a ceremony, but also a reminder of the importance of solidarity and mental health in daily life. This event also emphasizes UIN Jakarta's commitment to continue promoting solidarity and caring as this is in line with the spirit of International Volunteers Day.
