UIN Jakarta Graduation 139th Ceremony: Rector Urges Graduates to Become Value-Driven Individuals in the Digital Society Era

Auditorium Harun Nasution, UIN News Online — Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., emphasized that graduation is not the end of the academic journey, but the beginning of a greater responsibility to contribute meaningfully to society in the era of Digital Society. The message was delivered during the 139th Open Senate Graduation Ceremony for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs held at the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Sunday (08/02/2026).

The ceremony carried the theme “Digital Society: A Generation that is Religious, Smart, and Impactful to Society,” reflecting UIN Jakarta’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically capable but also grounded in ethics, spirituality, and social responsibility.

In his remarks, the Rector encouraged graduates to reflect on their academic journey, including challenges faced during their studies, as part of character formation. He reminded students that the transition from campus life to society requires adaptability, resilience, and continuous self-development.

He further emphasized that academic achievement, including GPA, should not be seen as the sole indicator of success. Instead, it must be complemented by strong character, communication skills, and the ability to adapt in a rapidly changing world.

Quoting Albert Einstein, the Rector highlighted the importance of becoming a “person of value” rather than merely pursuing personal success. He stressed that true success lies in the ability to provide meaningful contributions to others and society.

“Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value,” he conveyed, reinforcing the importance of impact-oriented thinking among graduates.

The Rector also linked this message to the broader vision of UIN Jakarta in shaping graduates who are able to navigate complexity in the digital era while maintaining strong Islamic and humanitarian values.

In addition, he encouraged graduates to take inspiration from role models in their personal and professional lives, and to remain connected to values that support long-term growth and integrity.

The ceremony also featured a fundraising initiative through the Social Trust Fund (STF) UIN Jakarta, which successfully collected donations from attendees to support students facing financial difficulties. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening social solidarity within the academic community.

Closing his speech, the Rector reminded graduates that their journey begins after graduation, and that real life demands continuous action, contribution, and responsibility.

“Life starts today. Do not wait for the perfect moment,” he concluded, encouraging graduates to immediately step forward into society as active contributors.
