UIN Jakarta Faculty of Science and Technology Dean Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana Elected APTIKOM Chair for 2026–2030
Ciputat, UIN Online News– Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta (UIN Jakarta), Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., has been elected Chair of the Association of Higher Education Institutions in Informatics and Computing (APTIKOM) for the 2026–2030 term. He will lead the association alongside Prof. Dr. Adiwijaya, S.Si., M.Si., a professor at Telkom University, who was elected Secretary-General.
According to a statement received on Saturday (October 10, 2026), Prof. Husni Teja and Prof. Adiwijaya were elected at the Seventh APTIKOM National Congress (Munas VII APTIKOM) 2026, held October 8–11, 2026, at Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta. Their election is expected to strengthen collaboration among higher education institutions while advancing the quality of education, research, and innovation in informatics and computing across Indonesia.
In his statement, Prof. Husni Teja expressed gratitude and thanked APTIKOM members for entrusting him with the leadership of the association for the 2026–2030 term. “This trust is not merely a personal responsibility, but a shared mandate to advance higher education in informatics and computing in Indonesia,” he said.
He acknowledged that higher education faces increasingly complex challenges, particularly amid rapid developments in artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, and industry demand for a skilled workforce. He hopes APTIKOM will serve as a collaborative platform connecting universities, government, businesses, and industry to build an adaptive, innovative, and competitive informatics education ecosystem.
Looking ahead, he emphasized the need for higher education institutions to strengthen partnerships, improve educational quality and faculty competencies, promote collaborative research, and accelerate the commercialization and practical application of research findings to deliver tangible benefits to society.
“Developing curricula that keep pace with technological advancements and workforce needs is also a key priority, including strengthening ethics and responsibility in the use of artificial intelligence,” he added.
Furthermore, he emphasized his commitment to ensuring that APTIKOM remains an inclusive organization, open to collaboration and capable of delivering tangible benefits to all member institutions, both public and private, across Indonesia.
“We hope APTIKOM will work collectively to advance higher education in informatics and computing. Progress cannot be achieved by a single institution or individual; it requires shared commitment and contributions,” he concluded.
Separately, UIN Jakarta Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., welcomed Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana’s election as APTIKOM Chair. He expressed hope that the new responsibility would be carried out successfully and provide an opportunity to expand the contribution of higher education institutions to technological development and human resource advancement in Indonesia.
The rector also expressed hope that APTIKOM’s new leadership would strengthen cooperation among universities, expand research collaboration, and promote innovation that responds to societal needs and developments in the digital industry. These efforts are expected to help higher education institutions produce graduates who are skilled, adaptable, and competitive.
Prof. Husni’s election adds to his academic and organizational experience in informatics. Before being elected chair, he served as APTIKOM Secretary-General for the 2022–2026 term, giving him direct experience in developing networks and collaboration among higher education institutions specializing in informatics and computing across Indonesia.
Prof. Husni is a professor of Artificial Intelligence at UIN Jakarta, appointed under Decree of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia No. 3313 of 2025. His appointment represents an important milestone in advancing technological scholarship at Indonesia’s state Islamic higher education institutions.
His academic background is rooted in engineering and technology. He earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Indonesia in 2001, followed by a master’s degree in engineering and technology from Sun Moon University, South Korea, in 2005. He completed his doctoral degree in engineering at the same university in 2009.
As an academic specializing in informatics, Prof. Husni is actively involved in teaching, research, and scholarly development. At FST UIN Jakarta, he teaches several courses, including Information Technology Project Management, Information Technology Research Methodology, and Bioethics and AI Literacy. These subjects support professional competency development, research methodology, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
His contributions are also reflected in his research and scholarly publications. One of the studies associated with his research field examines the use of Vision Transformer (ViT) architecture for automated stroke screening based on medical images, particularly magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This research highlights the potential of artificial intelligence in healthcare technology, especially in supporting medical image analysis.
In addition to his academic work, Prof. Husni received recognition in the Teaching Competition held as part of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 finals. This achievement reflects academic engagement in developing competencies and promoting innovation in information and communications technology.
