UIN Jakarta Equips KKN Students to Produce Compelling Community Service Profile Videos
Diorama Room, UIN Online News — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta organized the 2026 KKN In-Campus Orientation under the theme "One Unit, One Story: Showcasing KKN In-Campus Through Profile Videos" at the Diorama Room on Tuesday (9 April 2026). The program was designed to prepare students for the implementation of the university's campus-based Community Service Program (KKN) while strengthening collaboration among university units and faculties. A total of 712 students, representing KKN teams from various units across the university, participated in the orientation.
The event was attended by Head of the Center for Community Engagement (PPM), Ade Rina Farida, M.Si., Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M), Prof. Amelia Fauzia, Ph.D., as well as resource persons Alfian Mushof Abdullah, S.Sy., and Alkautsar Anhar, S.H.
In her opening remarks, Prof. Amelia Fauzia emphasized that documentation is an essential component of both academic and social accountability in community engagement activities. She noted that profile videos provide an effective way to communicate the real impact of students' community service initiatives to a wider audience.
"Documentation is more than just a complement to community service activities—it represents the public face of students' engagement. Through profile videos, we can communicate the real impact of KKN to society in a more meaningful and accessible way," she said.
Meanwhile, Ade Rina Farida highlighted the importance of collaboration among faculties and university units in producing high-quality publications that effectively capture the essence of each KKN project.
"Cross-unit and cross-faculty collaboration is essential to ensure that every KKN program tells a compelling, well-structured story capable of inspiring the wider community," she explained.
During the training session, Alfian Mushof Abdullah introduced participants to the three fundamental stages of documentary filmmaking: pre-production, production, and post-production. He emphasized that pre-production is the most critical phase because it establishes the overall direction of the project through idea development, research, and careful planning before fieldwork begins.
"Pre-production is the most crucial stage because this is where ideas are developed, research is conducted, and every aspect of the production is carefully planned before entering the field," he explained.
He further noted that during the production phase, students must ensure that filming follows the planned storyline, including interviews with key informants and the collection of supporting footage. In the post-production stage, video editing, scene arrangement, color grading, audio enhancement, and graphic design ultimately determine the quality of the final documentary.
The second session, delivered by Alkautsar Anhar, focused on the practical workflow of content production. He stressed that successful visual storytelling begins with a strong concept and effective teamwork before filming takes place.
"Good content always starts with a strong idea and careful planning. Developing the concept, identifying interview subjects, conducting location surveys, and preparing a detailed shot list are all essential steps before production begins," he said.
He concluded by reminding participants that the production stage is where all prior planning is put into action.
"Once production begins, every member of the team must be fully prepared. This is where the real action starts, and it ultimately determines the quality of the documentary," he added.
Through this orientation, UIN Jakarta expects students to transform their community service experiences into informative, well-structured, and engaging profile videos. The resulting publications will document each stage of the KKN program, enabling every participating unit to present authentic stories that highlight the impact of their community engagement initiatives while strengthening the university's public outreach.
