UIN Jakarta Convenes ICONZ 2025 with Representatives from Over 15 Countries

The Faculty of Economics and Business, UIN Online News – Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta convened the 9th Indonesian Conference of Zakat (ICONZ) 2025, featuring the presentation of papers for the Call for Papers and Call for Book Chapters as the opening series of events on Tuesday, 9 December 2025.

The three-day conference, held from 9 to 11 December 2025, adopted the overarching theme “Zakat and Philanthropy: Beyond Technology Designing a Global Transform for Humanity and Shared Prosperity.”

The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Ibnu Qizam, SE., M.Si., Ak., CA, who in his remarks expressed profound gratitude to The National Board of Zakat Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS) of the Republic of Indonesia for entrusting UIN Jakarta with hosting the 9th ICONZ this year.

“We highly appreciate the trust of BAZNAS and the support from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, INDEF, Tazkia University, Paramadina University, KNEKS, IAEI, and various other partners. This conference serves as a strategic forum to redefine the future direction of zakat and global Islamic philanthropy amidst digitalization, geopolitical tensions, and the ongoing occurrence of natural disasters,” he stated.

The event also brought together several distinguished figures, including the Director of National ZIS-DSKL Research and Development, Dr. Muhammad Hasbi Zaenal, Ph.D.; Professor at the National University of Malaysia (UKM), Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghafar Ismail, B.Sc., M.Ec., Ph.D.; and the Chairperson of ICONZ 2025 from the Faculty of Economics and Business, UIN Jakarta, as well as the Head of CSED INDEF, Prof. Nur Hidayah, S.Ag., SE., M.A., Ph.D.

This year’s conference recorded participation from more than 15 countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, Egypt, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Venezuela.

Dr. Muhammad Hasbi Zaenal, Ph.D., expressed his strong appreciation for the remarkable enthusiasm demonstrated by global zakat scholars and practitioners.

Alhamdulillah, we received 255 manuscript submissions and will be presenting 18 selected papers. Today, approximately 250–300 participants are in attendance. This reflects the growing global attention toward zakat,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghafar Ismail emphasized the importance of documenting zakat scholarship in book form for future generations.

“May this conference serve as an intellectual bridge across generations and further strengthen zakat as a pillar of community welfare and civilizational advancement,” he hoped.

Supported by BSI Maslahat, Rumah Zakat, Bank DKI, BAZNAS Bazis DKI Jakarta, and the Zakat Foundation of America, ICONZ 2025 is expected to produce strategic recommendations that further reinforce zakat as an instrument for transforming community welfare and shaping global civilization.
