UIN Jakarta Confers Degrees on 1,557 Graduates at 140th Commencement Ceremony
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially conferred degrees upon 1,557 graduates during its 140th Commencement Ceremony, held over two days at Harun Nasution Auditorium on May 23–24, 2026.
The commencement, themed “Strengthening National Aspirations in Building a Competitive Digital Generation,” brought together graduates from undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs across the university’s faculties and graduate school.
The conferment of degrees was formalized through Rector’s Decree No. 240 of 2026. During the first day of the ceremony, the university graduated 768 students from the Graduate School, the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, the Faculty of Ushuluddin, the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Sciences, and the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The second day featured graduates from the Faculty of Sharia and Law, the Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah, the Faculty of Psychology, the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and the Faculty of Medicine.
The commencement session was officially opened by Senate Secretary Prof. Dr. Masri Mansoer, M.Ag., alongside Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D. The ceremony was attended by members of the university senate, vice rectors, deans, academic leaders, faculty members, and guests.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the recognition of outstanding graduates from various academic levels and disciplines. Among those honored were Abdul Hafiz, Outstanding Doctoral Graduate from the Graduate School with a GPA of 3.76; Nurul Fadilah, Outstanding Master's Graduate with a GPA of 3.78; and Salsabila Azahra from the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, who achieved a perfect GPA of 4.00.
Other top graduates included Siti Nur Haliza from the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Sciences (GPA 3.98), Anandhia Claudy Tahsya from the Faculty of Ushuluddin (GPA 3.97), Mafatihatul Maghfiroh from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (GPA 3.96), and Zhafira Kamila Dewi from the Faculty of Health Sciences (GPA 3.92).
The university also recognized outstanding academic research. Alfiena May Shafa’ati from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities received the award for Best Undergraduate Thesis in Humanities and Islamic Studies for her research entitled “Gender Performativity as Resistance: Beatrice Prior’s Struggle Against the Patriarchal System in Divergent (2014).”
In his commencement address, Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar congratulated the graduates on reaching an important milestone and acknowledged the challenges they had overcome throughout their academic journey.
“You have reached the end of your studies, and that is no easy accomplishment. It requires managing emotions, energy, and financial resources. Today, you should be proud of what you have achieved,” he said.
The Rector also encouraged graduates to take pride in their alma mater, highlighting UIN Jakarta’s growing international reputation. He noted that the university is currently ranked 29th globally in Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies, according to international university rankings.
“We should be proud that UIN Jakarta has earned global recognition. This achievement strengthens our reputation and provides confidence for our graduates as they enter the professional world,” he added.
During the ceremony, the Rector also launched a fundraising initiative through UIN Jakarta’s Social Trust Fund (STF) to support students facing financial challenges. The campaign received an enthusiastic response from attendees and raised more than IDR 13 million by the conclusion of the commencement.
Representing the alumni community, Col. Muttaqin, M.Ag., a graduate of the Faculty of Da’wah and an officer in the Indonesian Air Force, reminded graduates that the most valuable lessons gained at UIN Jakarta extend beyond academic knowledge.
According to him, resilience, sincerity, moderation, and strong spiritual values serve as essential foundations for navigating contemporary challenges.
“Do not become a generation that only seeks comfort and collapses when faced with criticism. Become competitive digital citizens who master technology to advance Indonesia while maintaining compassion, integrity, and a strong sense of purpose,” he said.
The graduating class was represented by Mafatihatul Maghfiroh from the Arabic Language and Literature Program at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities. In her speech, she expressed gratitude to parents, lecturers, and university staff for their support throughout her studies.
Quoting the renowned scholar Imam Al-Shafi‘i, she reminded fellow graduates that success requires perseverance, sacrifice, and dedication.
“I stand here not only for myself, but for everyone who has ever doubted themselves, for everyone who has ever been afraid, and for every woman who has ever been underestimated. We can become whatever we aspire to be,” she said.
The celebration concluded on a festive note with a special appearance by renowned Indonesian Islamic musician Opick, who attended the ceremony to accompany his daughter, Ghaniya Salma, a graduate of the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Program. He also performed several of his most beloved songs, including Tombo Ati, Alhamdulillah, and Shollu ‘Ala Muhammad, adding a memorable touch to the occasion.
