UIN Jakarta Commemorates Pancasila Day with Renewed Commitment to National Unity
Student Center Field, UIN Online News — Indonesia affirms its commitment to Pancasila as its state foundation and national philosophy of life. The spirit of safeguarding unity, rejecting ideologies contrary to Pancasila, and practicing its values in national and civic life is declared as a shared and unwavering commitment.
This was the essence of the Pancasila Sanctity Pledge (Ikrar Kesaktian Pancasila) delivered by Dr. Yunita Faela Nisa, M.Psi., Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, during the official reading of the pledge at the Student Center Field, Campus I UIN Jakarta, on Wednesday (1/10/2025), attended by university leaders, lecturers, education staff, and students across faculties.
The program began with the flag-raising procession, a moment of silence, the recitation of the Pancasila text, the 1945 Constitution, and finally the Pancasila Sanctity Pledge. Each stage was conducted with reverence, serving as a reminder of the importance of unity and resilience in facing the nation’s challenges.
The ceremony was led directly by UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., who served as the ceremony inspector. In his remarks, he underscored that the commemoration of Pancasila Day is a vital moment to strengthen national unity and to remind the entire academic community of the noble values of Pancasila as the foundation of the state.
“Historically, this commemoration is all about reminding us that Pancasila is our wisdom in national life, governance, and daily work. Thus, its sacred legacy must be upheld, practiced, and manifested in real life,” he emphasized.
Rector Asep Jahar further called on the UIN Jakarta academic community to foster solidarity, strengthen the spirit of brotherhood, and nurture compassion within the campus environment by upholding Pancasila as the guiding principle in thought, behavior, and action.
“Amid globalization, technological development, and social as well as moral challenges, only by upholding Pancasila as our compass can we think, act, and behave correctly. As an academic community, let us strengthen togetherness, instill the values of diversity, and develop knowledge based on faith, devotion, and Pancasila,” he added.
The ceremony concluded with the singing of Garuda Pancasila, followed by a collective prayer led by Prof. Ismatu Ropi, M.A., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin. The prayer was offered for Indonesia to be blessed with the strength to safeguard unity, uphold justice, and carry forward the nation’s founding ideals.
Through this commemoration, UIN Jakarta reaffirmed its commitment to embed Pancasila across academic and social life. The university seeks to serve not only as a center of knowledge but also as a place for cultivating national character grounded in Pancasila values.
As a note, Pancasila Day, observed annually on October 1, traces its roots to the tragic events of 1965, when Indonesia faced threats from ideologies attempting to replace Pancasila. The occasion serves as a continual reminder that Pancasila must be upheld, practiced, and reinforced as the nation’s foundation and guiding philosophy in preserving unity and building Indonesia’s future.
