UIN Jakarta Central Library Organized Book Review

Central Library, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta central library held a book review by Ayang Utriza Yakin PhD titled Islam Moderat dan Isu-Isu Kontemporer at center library hall 7th floor, campus I of UIN Jakarta, Tuesday, (7/18).

Present in the event, the book author Ayang Utriza Yakin PhD, Kusmana PhD as the reviewer, and Muhammad Husnil as moderator.

In his presentation, Ayang said that his book is a compilation of his seven scientific articles that he already wrote. “In general, this book contains contemporary issues related to democracy, pluralism, religious freedom, non-Muslims, polygamy and jihad,” said Ayang.

According to Ayang, there are still many parties or individual who still cannot understand the true meaning of the terms above. Therefore, in the book, Ayang invites the readers to re-collect and review the history about the true meaning and actual function of those terms.

“The book also discusses some contemporary issues relating to religious and social humanity ranging from 2004 to 2016,” he added.

The book, which contains eight chapters, comes with a foundation derived from the Qur'an and Hadith. In addition, it is also equipped with a history on how and what causes the Islamic kingdoms in Makassar, Banten, and other places can continue to grow in the broad diversity of religions, races and cultures.

“If a nation wants to grow rapidly, the ruler should always give his/her people the freedom to grant and embrace religion according to their respective beliefs,” said the graduate of Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris, France.

At the end of his presentation, Ayang also explains one the chapters if his books, which is about Jihad. According to him, the meaning of Jihad is already widely misunderstood by certain groups of people. “I quote the words of Caliph Umar bin Khattab, He said that jihad is where a man who is able to do some introspection and think about the interests of the people,” he said.

In the same place, Kusmana PhD said that Ayang’s book is enriched with the results of research conducted by the author.

“The 251-page book is sufficiently representative and rich in analysis as well as referring directly from its primary sources,” said Kusmana.

For information, this book not only contains the results of research, but also equipped by the arguments of the Qur'an and Hadith as reference material on each issue discussed.

The 3 hour book review was closed with a question and answer session at the end of the event. (usa)
