UIN Jakarta Celebrates National Santri Day 2022

SC Field, UIN News Online – The leadership and academic community of UIN Jakarta held a commemoration of Santri Day by holding a ceremony in the Student Center field led by Vice Rector for Student Affairs Arief Subhan as ceremony inspector on Monday (10/24/2022). In addition to raising the red and white flag, the participants also sang the santri march.

At the ceremony, the male participants were seen neatly wearing batik sarongs, white shirts, and prayer caps. This is in accordance with the Circular Letter of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs Number 27 of 2022 concerning the Implementation of the 2022 Santri Day Commemoration Flag Ceremony.

Arief Subhan in his speech said that the santri day ceremony was a special moment. “Today is a special moment because all elements within the Indonesian Ministry of Religion can commemorate the commitment of students and the resolution of jihad in achieving Indonesian independence,” he said.

The commitment of the santri in that era, he said, was carried out by jihad in physical struggle. According to him, this commitment is one thing that should be imitated by all civitas within the Indonesian Ministry of Religios Affairs, including UIN Jakarta.

“In the past, the commitment was to fight for independence from foreign occupation. Now the commitment is to learn and improve our performance to be better,” said Arief.

Furthermore, Arief also asked the academic community of UIN Jakarta to always pray for the kyai-santri and the fighters who have sacrificed in seizing and defending Indonesia's independence.

“Let's be committed to learning and improving our performance, as well as praying for the santris and kiyais who have been martyred for the benefit of the nation and religion,” he concluded.

It is known, since the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2015 concerning Santri Day, Santri Day is commemorated every 22 October. This date refers to the jihad resolution that was called by Hadratusyekh KH Hasyim Asy'ari against the Dutch colonialism. (fa/zm/usa)
