UIN Jakarta Calls Students for Peaceful Expression Amid Heightened National Tensions

Jakarta, UIN Online News — In response to the current situation in Indonesia, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta leadership issued an official appeal on Friday (August 29, 2025), calling on all students to express their aspirations in an orderly, peaceful, and responsible manner.

Through an official letter, B-5526/R.III/HM.01.5/8/2025, Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of maintaining a conducive atmosphere, avoiding anarchic actions, and prioritizing both personal safety and public order.

"Students are advised to voice their aspirations peacefully, refrain from any form of violence or vandalism, and avoid being provoked by unverified information," he stated in the official notice.

The key points of the university’s appeal are as follows:

  1. Express aspirations in an orderly, peaceful, and prudent manner. Avoid any acts of violence, vandalism, destruction of property or greenery, and anarchic behavior anywhere, including in the vicinity of the National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) and Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya).

  2. Prioritize personal safety and public security while maintaining public order.

  3. Do not be easily provoked by unverified information. Students are urged to verify news from credible sources.

  4. Channel aspirations through constructive avenues in accordance with prevailing legal frameworks.

For freshmen currently participating in the Introduction to Academic Culture and Student Affairs (PBAK) 2025 program, the university also reminded them to complete all scheduled activities as planned.

"We value the critical thinking and high concern shown by our students. However, we emphasize that the most effective way to express aspirations is through peaceful and responsible means," the statement concluded.
