UIN Jakarta Breaks Ground for New Faculty of Ushuluddin Building, Rector Highlights Infrastructure Development and Global Reputation

UIN Online News — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially held the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Faculty of Ushuluddin Building, which will be named the Prof. Dr. K.H. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A. Building, at a site adjacent to the Faculty of Health Sciences on Thursday (23/4/2026).

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. K.H. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A.; the Minister's spouse, Hj. Helmi Halimatul Udhmah, M.Si.; the Director of Islamic Higher Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. Phil. Sahiron, M.A.; UIN Jakarta Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D.; Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi; Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Ali Munhanif, Ph.D.; Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Development Din Wahid, Ph.D.; members of the university community; stakeholders; and representatives from banking partners.

In his remarks, Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D. highlighted the university's recent achievements and strategic development plans. He noted that UIN Jakarta has successfully strengthened its global standing by being ranked 29th worldwide in the Theology, Religion & Divinity subject category.

"We are now ranked 29th globally in Theology, Religion & Divinity by subject. This is a remarkable achievement that makes us very proud. Therefore, although we continue to develop the natural sciences and other general disciplines, we remain committed to strengthening religious scholarship and promoting the integration of knowledge," he said.

The Rector further revealed that, in addition to the new Faculty of Ushuluddin building, UIN Jakarta is preparing to begin construction of another major facility this year—a new Information Technology (Pustipanda) Building, which is planned to rise four to five stories.

"This year, God willing, we will also break ground for the new IT (Pustipanda) Building, which is expected to have four or five floors," he stated.

He also explained that the university is actively preparing for its transformation into a State Islamic Higher Education Institution with Legal Entity Status (PTN-BH). According to him, the institution is well-positioned for this transition, having developed a strong portfolio of self-sustaining business units.

"We are currently strengthening the supporting requirements for our transformation into a PTN-BH. UIN Jakarta is ready for this because our independent business units have grown significantly. We now operate two hospitals, a hotel, and various other business ventures, with additional developments underway. This means that our potential revenue from non-tuition sources is already substantial," he added.
